This topic describes the reasons for overdue payments for Cloud Backup and the status of your service after a payment becomes overdue.

Warning

If a payment becomes overdue, your service is at risk of suspension. The system sends you a notification. Renew your service promptly to avoid service disruptions.

Reasons for overdue payments

An overdue payment for Cloud Backup may occur in the following situations:

  • You purchased a resource plan, but your usage exceeds the plan's quota and your account balance is insufficient.

  • You did not purchase a resource plan to cover the costs of the service, and your account balance is insufficient.

Service status after an overdue payment

If your Cloud Backup account has an overdue payment, note the following:

Overdue period

Description

Within the service suspension protection period

  • You can continue to use Cloud Backup.

  • If you top up your account during this period, your service will not be suspended.

Note

Alibaba Cloud provides service suspension protection. This feature lets you continue using pay-as-you-go Alibaba Cloud services for a specific period or up to a specific amount after a payment is overdue. Billing continues as normal during the protection period. The protection quota is not the upper limit for your total overdue payment. Your protection quota or period is automatically calculated and updated each month based on factors such as your historical spending on Alibaba Cloud. For more information, see Service suspension protection.

Within 15 days after service suspension

  • If your overdue payment exceeds the service suspension protection quota, tasks for Cloud Backup, such as backups, archiving, and data replication, will stop. Your backup data is retained but cannot be used for recovery. Billing for backup software and storage space will also stop.

  • If you top up your account during this period, service for Cloud Backup will automatically resume.

More than 15 days after service suspension

You are considered to have voluntarily discontinued your use of Cloud Backup. Alibaba Cloud will terminate the terms of service for this product and stop providing the service. All your data stored in Cloud Backup will be deleted and cannot be recovered. Billing stops before the data is deleted.

Important

If you do not settle the overdue payment (meaning your account balance is less than 0) within 15 days after the service is suspended, all your data stored in Cloud Backup will be deleted and cannot be recovered. This applies regardless of whether you have purchased a resource plan or if the resource plan is still valid.

VMware virtual machine migration

If your account has an overdue payment, VMware virtual machine migration tasks fail. To restart a migration, you must first top up your account. Overdue payments for ECS instances that are created from a migration are handled in the same way as for regular ECS instances.
