Serverless resource group free trial
DataWorks offers various free benefits, including the Basic Edition and a serverless resource plan. This topic describes how new users can claim and use the free trial resource plan for a serverless resource group, and explains its detailed deduction rules and potential risks.
-
We recommend that you first activate the free DataWorks Basic Edition service and read Billing overview and Overview of DataWorks free benefits.
-
Carefully read the deduction rules for the serverless resource group. You may still incur fees for other billable items in DataWorks or after the resource plan expires.
Serverless resource group free trial
A serverless resource group is an on-demand, pay-as-you-go computing model. You do not need to purchase or manage servers in advance. When a task runs, the system automatically allocates the required resources and immediately releases them after the task is complete. You are charged only for the computing resources that you actually consume. The DataWorks free trial resource plan can only be used to deduct resource consumption from pay-as-you-go serverless resource groups.
Free trial details
-
Eligibility: Available only to new DataWorks users. Existing customers who purchase the plan will be charged the standard price.
-
Applicable region: Chinese mainland.
-
Resource plan capacity: 750 CU*H.
In serverless computing, 1 CU is equivalent to 1 vCPU and 4 GiB of memory. The basic unit for measuring resource consumption is CU*H, which is calculated by multiplying the computing resources used (in CUs) by the runtime (in hours). For example, if a synchronization task runs for 0.5 hours and uses 2 CUs, the total consumption is
2 CUs × 0.5 H = 1 CU*H. -
Purchase quantity: You can purchase a maximum of one plan.
-
Validity period: The resource plan is valid for one month, providing a total of 750 CU*H.
-
The free trial resource plan expires if its capacity is fully consumed within one month.
-
If the capacity is not fully consumed after one month, the remaining capacity expires.
-
-
Cost: $0.
Deduction rules
-
The free trial resource plan can only be used to deduct resource consumption from a pay-as-you-go serverless resource group. If you have already purchased a subscription serverless resource group, you must ensure that your tasks use a pay-as-you-go resource group to consume the capacity from the resource plan.
-
The free trial resource plan is effective immediately upon being claimed. It applies only to CU*H consumption that occurs after activation and cannot be used retroactively.
-
The resource plan expires when its capacity is depleted or its validity period ends.
ImportantAfter the resource plan expires, your resource usage will be billed on a pay-as-you-go basis. If you no longer need to use the resource group, delete the data and resources in a timely manner. For more information, see Stop using a resource group.
-
If you claim the free trial resource plan and also purchase a standard resource plan for a serverless resource group, the system deducts from the free trial resource plan first.
Claim the free trial plan
You can claim the free trial resource plan in the following ways:
The free trial resource plan provides 750 CU*H, is valid for one month, and is applicable to the Chinese mainland region.
Method 1: Claim from the Free Trial page
|
Method 2: Claim from the purchase page
|
Use the free trial plan
The free trial resource plan works with pay-as-you-go serverless resource groups. After claiming the plan, create a pay-as-you-go serverless resource group and assign it to your big data development tasks. The system will then automatically deduct consumed CU capacity from your plan.
-
Create a pay-as-you-go serverless resource group and bind it to the destination workspace. For more information, see Use a serverless resource group. After the resource group is created, confirm that its status is Running in the resource group list. Then, in the Actions column, click Bind Workspace.
-
In modules such as Data Integration, DataStudio, and Operation Center, switch the resource group for your tasks to the newly created pay-as-you-go serverless resource group. For more information, see General reference: Switch resource groups.
View and manage the plan
View the remaining quota
-
Use your Alibaba Cloud account to go to Billing Management.
-
In the left-side navigation pane, click to go to the Resource Packages page.
-
Switch the Resource Dimension to Resource Packages. Find the resource plan that you purchased and click Statistics in the Actions column.
-
View the usage and remaining capacity of the resource plan.
The page displays the Resource Package Usage Statistics (Total Amount Decremental). The top section contains basic information such as Product Name, Resource Package ID, Resource Package Name, and Expiration Time, and a usage progress bar showing the Total, Used, and Remaining capacity. You can filter the usage by Consumption Time to view data for a specific period. The Instance Consumption Overview section at the bottom shows the daily average deduction and the Instance Consumption Distribution. You can click Instance Deduction Data to view more details.
Set a low balance alert
After the resource plan expires, billing automatically switches to the pay-as-you-go model. To avoid unnecessary charges, you can set a low balance alert. When the remaining capacity of your resource plan falls below a preset threshold, the system automatically sends notifications through SMS, email, and internal messages.
-
Use your Alibaba Cloud account to go to Billing Management.
-
In the left-side navigation pane, click to go to the Resource Packages page.
-
Click Balance Alert Settings to set alert thresholds for the DataWorks resource plan.
In the Unified Balance Alert Settings area, turn on the Enable Alerts switch and set the Remaining Quota Ratio thresholds (for example, 20% and 0%). You can also configure the alert switch and remaining quota ratio for individual resource plans in the list below. Low balance alerts are available for resource plans with monthly or indefinite commitment cycles, but not for hourly or daily plans.
NoteFor more information about setting low balance alerts in Billing Management, see Set a low balance alert for a resource plan.

Appendix: DataWorks free benefits
In addition to the serverless resource plan (exclusive to new users), DataWorks provides various other free benefits, such as the DataWorks Basic Edition and free quotas for certain features. This allows you to get started with DataWorks at a low cost.
Free Basic Edition
You can use the DataWorks Basic Edition for free, with no software license fees.
Free trial: Serverless resource plan
You can claim a one-time free trial resource plan to offset the computing consumption of DataWorks serverless resource groups. After the resource plan is depleted or expires, billing automatically switches to pay-as-you-go. We recommend setting a low balance alert in advance. Read the deduction rules carefully, as you may still incur charges if the resource plan expires or the usage exceeds the quota.
Free quotas for features
-
Each month, DataWorks provides a free quota for scheduling instance fees and other services, such as Data Quality and Smart Baseline.
-
When your usage exceeds the free quota, you are billed for the excess.
Third-party service fees
If your trial involves fees for third-party services such as MaxCompute, Hologres, or OSS, these fees are not charged by DataWorks.
