Database Gateway provides a secure, reliable, and low-cost database access service. It also integrates with other Alibaba Cloud products, such as Data Transmission Service (DTS), Data Disaster Recovery, and Data Management (DMS).
Secure and reliable
You do not need to expose the public IP address of your database. This ensures the security and stability of your data assets.
When the local gateway starts, you generate a temporary token in the console. The gateway then sends this token to the server-side over an encrypted link for authentication. This process ensures that only the intended user can use the gateway. The token expires in 15 minutes and is valid for a single authentication.
The temporary token mechanism removes the need to store your Alibaba Cloud AK locally. This prevents your AK from being exposed.
Transport Layer Security (TLS) provides asymmetric key encryption for all data in transit.
The API returns the list of gateways only for the currently logged-in user. This prevents unauthorized access to gateway information.
To access a database through the gateway, cloud products must authenticate using a temporary user AK and the gateway ID. This prevents unauthorized access to database information.
Simple and easy to use
You can connect your local database to Alibaba Cloud in under a minute in just a few simple steps. No complex network or routing configurations are required.
Low cost
The database access service is free. You do not need to purchase Elastic Compute Service (ECS), Virtual Private Cloud (VPC), or Express Connect. The local gateway agent runs on any machine with available memory. Data is also compressed for transmission over the public network to reduce your network costs.
High availability
Locally, in addition to single-machine disaster recovery, you can deploy multiple nodes to form a cluster for cross-machine or cross-data center disaster recovery. In the cloud, disaster recovery across data centers is automatic, and disconnected links are restored within seconds.
