Control devices with an Amazon Echo speaker using the Cloud Intelligence app

For products that use the Cloud Intelligence app, you can use one-click activation for Amazon Alexa. This lets you control devices with an Amazon Echo speaker.

Background information

This example uses Amazon Alexa. For more information, see the official Amazon Alexa documentation.

Conditions

Only devices activated in the following regions can be connected to Amazon Alexa:

  • Outside China
  • Hong Kong (China)
  • Macao (China)
  • Taiwan (China)

Enable in the console

  1. Make sure your product belongs to a category that is supported by Amazon Alexa.

    • Lights
    • Sockets
    • Aroma diffusers
    • Curtains
    Note The platform is gradually adding more categories supported by Amazon Alexa. If your product is not in the list, contact business and technical support to confirm that your product is supported before you connect.
  2. Purchase and enable the Amazon Alexa service.
    1. Go to the Service Center and click Enable Service for Amazon Alexa.
      Note Voice services purchased and enabled in the Service Center cannot be used for skills created on the IoT Platform.
    2. Assign a project and create a new product within it. For more information, see Create a product.
    3. Define product features. For more information, see Add standard features.
    4. On the Human-Computer Interaction page, turn on the Control Product with Public App switch, and click Settings for Amazon Alexa
      Turn on the switch for Amazon Alexa.

  3. Debug the device.
    1. Burn the certificate information to the test device. For more information, see Develop a device.
    2. Download the Cloud Intelligence app to debug the device. For more information, see Cloud Intelligence app overview. After you connect your test device to the network and attach it, follow the steps in the Consumer guide section to attach Amazon Alexa and control the device with the speaker.
    Important When you create an account for the first time, select a country or region other than the Chinese mainland. For example, you can select United States.

Consumer usage

  1. Download the Cloud Intelligence app and use it to attach your device. The device must be connected to the IoT Platform (Alibaba Cloud International Website). The app is named Cloud Intelligence - Smart Home Assistant in app stores in the Chinese mainland and Cloud Intelligence in app stores outside China.
  2. Change the device nickname to an English name, such as My Light Device.
  3. Download the Amazon Alexa app from an app store and attach your Amazon Echo speaker.
    Note
    • For iOS users, search for and download Amazon Alexa from the U.S. App Store. For Android users, search for and download Amazon Alexa from Google Play.
    • To download Amazon Alexa in the Chinese mainland, you need an app store account from outside China. For testing in the Chinese mainland, you can configure it on the webpage.
  4. In the Amazon Alexa client, click Skills. Search for Cloud Intelligence and click ENABLE to enable the skill.
  5. Enter the logon account and password for your Cloud Intelligence client. Select the correct country for your account, and then click Link Now to link your device.
  6. Before you can control the device, the Amazon Echo speaker must discover it. Say to the Amazon Echo speaker: Alexa, discover devices. Alternatively, you can click DISCOVER on the Cloud Intelligence page to discover devices. The attached devices are then displayed in a list.
    Note If you change the device nickname in the Cloud Intelligence app, the Amazon Echo speaker must discover the device again. Otherwise, you cannot control the device.
  7. Control your device with the following instructions. This example assumes the device nickname is My Light Device.
    • Turn on or off the device: Alexa, turn on/off my light device.
    • Adjust the light brightness: Alexa, brighten/dim my light device.
    • Adjust the light color: Alexa, set my light device to yellow.
    • Adjust the light color temperature: Alexa, set my light device to warm white.
