Cloud instance monitoring

Cloud instance monitoring lets you collect metrics from ApsaraDB RDS for MySQL, ApsaraDB for Redis, and ApsaraDB for MongoDB instances and store them in your TSDB for InfluxDB® instance. After metrics are collected, view the monitoring dashboards in Grafana.

Only instances deployed in the same virtual private cloud (VPC) as your TSDB for InfluxDB® instance can be monitored.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, ensure that you have:

  • A TSDB for InfluxDB® instance running V1.7.11 or later. If your version is earlier, submit a ticket to upgrade.

  • Bidirectional VPC access enabled. For more information, see Bidirectional access within a VPC.

  • The IP addresses from the bidirectional-access VPC whitelist added to the network whitelist of the cloud instance you want to monitor. For more information, see Configure a network whitelist.

  • A public endpoint configured for your TSDB for InfluxDB® instance so it can be accessed over the Internet.

  • A public endpoint configured for Grafana to access the TSDB for InfluxDB® instance over the Internet, and a Grafana account created on the Grafana Visualization page in the TSDB console.

Add a monitored instance

  1. Log on to the TSDB console.

  2. On the Instances page, find the target TSDB for InfluxDB® instance and click Manage in the Actions column.

  3. In the left-side navigation pane, click Instance Monitoring.

  4. Click Add Instance and configure the cloud instance connection.

    ParameterDescription
Select an engineThe database engine type. Valid values: MySQL, Redis, and MongoDB.
Instance IDThe ID of the cloud instance to monitor.
Authorized AccountThe username of the account used to connect to the cloud instance.
Authorized PasswordThe password of the account.
  5. Click Verification Information & Authorization. The system verifies that the credentials can connect to the cloud instance. If verification fails, check that the credentials are correct and that the account has sufficient permissions to access the instance.

  6. Select an InfluxDB database to store the collected metrics.

    ParameterDescription
Storage DatabaseThe name of the InfluxDB database where metrics are stored.
UsernameThe username of the account used to connect to the InfluxDB database.
    PasswordThe password of the account.
  7. Click Verify. The system verifies the InfluxDB database credentials. If the username already exists, the system checks that the account has read and write permissions on the specified database. If the username does not exist, the system creates the account automatically. After verification succeeds, the instance appears in the monitored instances list.

If this step fails, retry. If it continues to fail after several retries, submit a ticket.

Manage monitored instances

After an instance is added, you can perform the following operations:

  • Modify instance information: Click Modify next to the instance to update its basic configuration.

  • View monitoring dashboards: Click View Monitoring Details to open the Grafana dashboard for that instance.

The first time you access Grafana, enter the username and password for your Grafana account. Create this account on the Grafana Visualization page in the TSDB console before proceeding.
