Create an alert rule

Updated at:

This topic describes how to create and configure an alert rule.

Precautions

  • You must publish an application by using Cloud Application Fabric Engine (CAFE) before you can view the application on the Application Monitoring page.

  • You must create a custom monitoring product before you can create an alert rule for the monitoring product.

  • To send alert notifications by using DingTalk or text messages, you must first create a notification group.

  • You cannot create alert rules to collect monitoring data at the second level by using no key or multiple keys because such monitoring scenarios require a large number of resources. These two scenarios are named as Second-level Statistics/Keyless and Second-level Statistics/Multi-Key in Real-time Monitoring Service (RMS).

Configure alert rules for custom monitoring products

This section describes how to configure an alert rule for a custom monitoring product of one of the following types:

Minute-level Statistics/Keyless

  1. Log on to the Real-time Monitoring Service (RMS) console. In the left-side navigation pane, click Custom Monitoring.

  2. On the Custom Monitoring page, find a custom monitoring product of the Minute-level Statistics/Keyless type, move the pointer over Actions to the right of the custom monitoring product, and then select Edit from the drop-down list. On the page that appears, set the parameters in the Alert Package Configuration section.

In the Alert Package Configuration section, create an alert package.

  3. Click Add Alert Rule. In the Alert Trigger Condition dialog box, set the Value Setting Method, Threshold Compare Method, IM Threshold, SMS Threshold, and Plan Threshold parameters and click OK. An alert rule is created.

    Note
    • Alert Level: the risk level of the alert. This parameter facilitates alert management and data monitoring. Valid values: Red Alert, Orange Alert, and General Alert. In this example, the default value General Alert is used.

    • Detection Frequency (Interval in Minute): the interval at which the alert rule is triggered for monitoring. In this example, the default value 1 is used.

    • DingTalk Threshold: If this threshold is reached, an alert notification is sent to the specified DingTalk group.

    • SMS Threshold: If this threshold is reached, an alert notification is sent to each specified contact by using a text message.

Minute-level Statistics/Multi-Key

  1. On the Custom Monitoring page, find a custom monitoring product of the Minute-level Statistics/Multi-Key type, move the pointer over Actions to the right of the custom monitoring product, and then select Edit from the drop-down list. On the page that appears, set the parameters in the Alert Package Configuration section.

In the Alert Package Configuration section, create an alert package.

  2. Click Add Alert Rule. In the Alert Trigger Condition dialog box, set the Value Setting Method, Threshold Compare Method, IM Threshold, SMS Threshold, and Plan Threshold parameters and click OK. An alert rule is created.

If a grouping dimension is specified, you can configure alert rules for different column values. If you need to use a global rule for all keys, set the Column Value Filtering parameter to *.

Common Service Metrics

  1. On the Custom Monitoring page, find a custom monitoring product of the Common Service Metrics type, move the pointer over Actions to the right of the custom monitoring product, and then select Edit from the drop-down list. On the page that appears, set the parameters in the Alert Package Configuration section.

In the Alert Package Configuration section, create an alert package.

  2. Click Add Alert Rule. In the Alert Trigger Condition dialog box, set the Value Column, Value Setting Method, Threshold Compare Method, IM Threshold, SMS Threshold, and Plan Threshold parameters and click OK. An alert rule is created.

If a grouping dimension is specified, you can configure alert rules for different column values. If you need to use a global rule for all keys, set the Column Value Filtering parameter to *.

Single Data Top N

On the Custom Monitoring page, find a custom monitoring product of the Single Data Top N type, move the pointer over Actions to the right of the custom monitoring product, and then select Edit from the drop-down list. On the page that appears, set the parameters in the Alert Package Configuration section. The configuration in the following figure specifies that if more than three values of the sort column are greater than 10, an alert is triggered. The alert content is the log content. A maximum of two logs can be sent at a time.

Top N Minute-level Statistics

On the Custom Monitoring page, find a custom monitoring product of the Top N Minute-level Statistics type, move the pointer over Actions to the right of the custom monitoring product, and then select Edit from the drop-down list. On the page that appears, set the parameters in the Alert Package Configuration section. The configuration in the following figure specifies that if more than three keys have column values greater than 10, an alert is triggered. The alert content is the log content. A maximum of two logs can be sent at a time.

Configure alert rules for application monitoring

Go to the Application Monitoring page, find the application that you want to manage, and then click Edit in the Actions column to go to the application details page.

In the upper part of the page, click Edit. The configuration page of the application appears.

The follow examples show how to configure alert rules for different types of metrics:

Configure an alert rule for an application service metric

Application service metrics include Error, PV, Service, SAL, DAL, and CAL. You can configure alert rules for these metrics from each of the following dimensions: cache source, total logical data centers (LDCs), total Internet data centers (IDCs), and total applications. To create an alert rule for a specific metric, click the corresponding button for the metric in the upper part of the application configuration page. In this example, click the service button.

Click Total Applications to go to the Alert Configuration page. On the tab that appears, click Add Trigger Condition.

In the dialog box that appears, set the Value Setting Method, Threshold Compare Method, DingTalk Threshold, and SMS Threshold parameters and click OK.

Configure an alert rule for a system metric

On the configuration page of the application, click the system in the upper part.

On the tab that appears, click Add Alert Rule. In the System Metric Alert Rules dialog box, set the parameters such as Alert Metrics, Threshold Compare Method, SMS Threshold, and click OK.

Configure an alert rule for port detection

On the configuration page of the application, click the Port in the upper part.

Click Edit in the Port column. In the dialog box that appears, specify one or more port numbers for port detection and click OK.
