Problem description

The content of an email in Alibaba Mail is modified without authorization. The recipient does not receive the email sent by the sender. Instead, the recipient receives an email with different content.

Causes

1. Stolen mailbox account: A third party uses the stolen mailbox account to send emails directly.

2. Malicious tracking by a virus: Information from sent emails is stolen. This can happen if a virus plug-in is installed on the client computer or if a third-party client software has security vulnerabilities.

3. Spoofed sender identity: A third party sends fraudulent emails by faking the sender's identity. For example, they might use similar account names, such as using the letter 'l' instead of the number '1', or 'd' instead of 'b'. The displayed account name or sender's email address may not match the actual sender's information. For more information, see An email received in Alibaba Mail is displayed as sent on behalf of another user.

Solutions

Resolve the issue based on its cause:

1. Stolen mailbox account: Log on to the Alibaba Mail web client with the stolen account. In the upper-right corner, click Settings. Choose Account and Security > LogSearch. Check for unfamiliar IP addresses and logon cities. If you find any, change your mailbox password immediately. Create a complex password with a random combination of uppercase letters, lowercase letters, and numbers. Keep your password information secure. For more information about how to change your password, see How do I change my Alibaba Mail password?.

2. Malicious tracking by a virus: Run a full, in-depth antivirus scan on your computer to ensure that your network environment is secure.

3. Spoofed sender identity: This is a common method that malicious organizations use to confuse recipients about the true source of an email. When you use your mailbox, always carefully verify the sender's identity if an email contains important information. The sender and recipient can agree on a special signature, email title, or other content known only to them to use as an identifier. You can also confirm the email content using other contact methods, such as a phone call.
