Upgrade or downgrade
When your TSDB for InfluxDB® instance no longer fits your workload — whether it needs more compute, memory, or storage — change its specifications or storage capacity to scale up or down.
Prerequisites
Before you begin, ensure that you have:
-
A TSDB for InfluxDB® instance. See Create a TSDB for InfluxDB® instance
Usage notes
Review these constraints before submitting a change order:
-
Submitted orders cannot be canceled. Verify the new specifications meet your requirements before you proceed.
-
Disk storage capacity can only be scaled out, never in.
-
Services may be interrupted for about 30 seconds, once or twice, during the change. Most database, account, and network operations are unavailable during this window.
-
After submitting the order, do not perform DDL operations until the new configuration takes effect.
-
The instance restarts automatically after the change. No manual restart is needed.
Tip: Schedule changes during off-peak hours, or make sure your application reconnects automatically.
