The change tracking feature of Data Transmission Service (DTS) retrieves real-time incremental data from a database for scenarios such as cache updates, asynchronous decoupling, real-time synchronization between disparate data sources, and complex ETL processes. Use this guide to create, monitor, and manage change tracking channels and consume tracked data.

Background information

Change tracking process

To use DTS for change tracking, complete the following steps.

Workflow

Description

  1. Preparations

Prepare the source database to meet the environment requirements before you configure change tracking.

  1. Configure a tracking task

Configure the change tracking task in the DTS console.

  1. Managing subscription channels

  • Add a consumer group

After you configure the change tracking channel, add a consumer group for the client to consume data. You can create multiple consumer groups to consume data from the same source repeatedly, which reduces costs and improves consumption speed.

  • Optional: Manage consumer groups

Manage consumer groups for a change tracking channel, such as changing passwords or deleting groups.

  • Optional: Modify tracked objects

You can modify the tracked objects while the tracking task is running.

  1. Consuming subscription data

Select a consumption method based on your client and database type:

  1. Stop the change tracking task

To stop a change tracking task, release the DTS instance.
