When a subscription instance expires, you can change its instance type during renewal. This must be done before the instance is automatically released. You can upgrade or downgrade the instance type.

Scenarios

A subscription instance has expired but has not been automatically released. You can use the renew with specification change feature to change the instance type during renewal. You can upgrade or downgrade the instance type.

Note

You can also use the renew with specification change feature if an "insufficient inventory" message is displayed when you attempt to renew an instance.

If you want to change the bandwidth during renewal or downgrade the instance type in the 15 days before the instance expires, use the renew and downgrade feature. The following diagram illustrates the differences between the renew with specification change and renew and downgrade features:

Operation

Description

Renew with specification change

Change the instance type when you renew the instance. You can upgrade or downgrade the instance type.

For more information about the supported instance type changes, see Limits on instance type changes.

Renew and downgrade

  • Downgrade instance type: Downgrade the instance type within the same instance family. (This feature is available only within 15 days before the instance expires.)

  • Change public bandwidth:

    • If the current billing method is pay-by-bandwidth: Decrease the fixed bandwidth, or change the billing method for bandwidth to pay-by-traffic and set a peak bandwidth.

    • If the current billing method is pay-by-traffic: Change the peak bandwidth.

  • Convert data disk billing method: Change from subscription to pay-as-you-go.

Precautions

When you use the renew with specification change feature, migration-type instance types may be displayed in the list of available instance types for some instances. If your instance is a non-I/O optimized instance, selecting a migration-type instance type converts it to an I/O optimized instance. In this case, you must also select a new system disk type. The system disk must be an I/O optimized disk, such as an ultra disk, a standard SSD, or an enterprise SSD.

Procedure

  1. Go to ECS console - Instances.

  2. In the top navigation bar, select the region and resource group of the resource that you want to manage. 地域

  3. Click the ID or name of the target instance to open the instance details page. In the All Operations section, select Renew and Reconfigure.

  4. Configure the renewal and reconfiguration settings.

    1. You can select the appropriate specifications.

For more information about the supported instance type changes, see Limits on instance type changes.

    2. Select a renewal duration.

The Renew and Reconfigure page lists the available renewal durations.

    3. Optional: Enable auto-renewal.

    4. Read the notes and select the ECS Service Terms checkbox.

  5. Click Confirm Order and complete the payment.

Result

After the renewal and specification change is complete, the instance automatically restarts to begin the new billing cycle. The new instance type takes effect immediately.
