Create a containerized application

Updated at:

IoT Edge manages containerized applications to coordinate work between the cloud and the edge. This topic describes how to create a containerized application in the console.

Prerequisites

You have developed a container image. For more information, see Image management.

Step 1: Create an image repository

Before you create a containerized application, create an image repository for your container images.

Note

If you already have an image repository for other containerized applications, you can use the existing repository.

  1. Log on to the IoT Edge console.

  2. From the drop-down list in the navigation pane on the left, select your instance.

  3. In the navigation pane on the left, choose Node Management > Application Management.

  4. On the Application Management page, click the Containerized Application tab, and then click Image Management. The system redirects you to the Image Management page of the Artificial Intelligence of Things (AIoT) Open Platform.

  5. On the Image Management page, click Create Image Repository.

  6. In the Create Image Repository dialog box, configure the parameters as described in the following table, and then click OK.

    Parameter

    Description

    Image Repository Name

Enter a name for the image repository. The name must be 4 to 32 characters long. It can contain lowercase letters, digits, underscores (_), hyphens (-), and periods (.). It cannot start or end with a punctuation mark or contain consecutive punctuation marks.

    Summary

Enter a description for your image repository. The description can be up to 100 characters long.

Step 2: Package and upload the image

  1. On the Image Management page, in the Image Repository List, find the image repository that you created in Step 1 and click View in the Actions column.

  2. On the Image Operation page, click the User Guide tab. Select the guide for your operating system and follow the instructions to package and upload the image.

Alternatively, for instructions on how to package and upload the image, see the Image Management document in the AIoT Competence Center.

Step 3: Create a containerized application

  1. Return to the IoT Edge console.

  2. In the navigation pane on the left, choose Node Management > Application Management.

  3. On the Application Management page, click the Containerized Application tab, and then click Create Application.

  4. In the Create Containerized Application dialog box, set the parameters, and then click Confirm.

    Parameter

    Description

    Application Name

Enter a name for the containerized application. The name can contain Chinese characters, uppercase and lowercase letters, digits, underscores (_), and hyphens (-). It must be 4 to 32 characters in length.

    CPU Architecture

The CPU architecture of the containerized application.

    Important

After you select a CPU architecture, the application can be used only on edge devices that have the same CPU architecture.

    Application Description

Enter a description for your containerized application. The description can be up to 100 characters long.

Step 4: Initialize the application

  1. On the Application Management page, click the Containerized Application tab. Find the application that you created in Step 3, and click View in the Actions column.

  2. On the Application Details page, click the Application Information tab, and then click Initialize Application.

  3. In the Initialize Application dialog box, enter a description for the initial version, and then click OK.

What to do next

  1. Visually orchestrate the application.

  2. (Optional) Configure models and permissions.

  3. (Optional) Configure a logon-free path.

  4. Assign the containerized application to an edge node.
