This topic describes the billing methods for Alibaba Cloud Optical Character Recognition (OCR) resource plans.
Resource plan overview
After you activate the OCR service, you can purchase subscription resource plans. For each API call, the system automatically deducts the corresponding number of calls or points from your resource plans.
Subscription resource plans are available in two types. The system deducts from dedicated resource plans first.
Shared resource plan: This resource plan can be used for multiple APIs. We recommend purchasing a shared resource plan.
Dedicated resource plan: This resource plan can be used only for a specific API.
Shared resource plans
Can be used for the Unified OCR API.
Can be used for individual APIs. This includes all APIs for general text recognition, personal ID and document recognition, vehicle and logistics recognition, receipt and invoice recognition, business qualification recognition, education scenario recognition, minority language recognition, and medical scenario recognition.

Product description
Shared resource plans are purchased in units of points, not API calls. The number of points deducted varies for each API call. For more information, see the Deduction rules section below.
Shared resource plans offer greater business flexibility and are the recommended option.
The OCR Unified Recognition API supports shared resource plans but does not support dedicated resource plans.
You cannot convert purchased dedicated resource plans to shared resource plans, or vice versa.
Shared resource plans are refundable. For more information, see the Refund policy section below.
Shared resource plans are not available on Alibaba Cloud Marketplace.
Deduction rules
Reminder: Shared resource plans are purchased in units of points, not API calls.
The cost per call (in CNY) for the same API may differ slightly between shared and dedicated resource plans of different sizes. Choose the resource plan type that best suits your business needs and budget.
Deduction rules for the Unified OCR API
The Unified OCR API has two deduction tiers. Each successful call deducts 10 points for the Standard tier or 20 points for the Advanced tier.
The number of points deducted depends on the image type submitted in the API call, as shown in the table below.
For a given image type, the Unified OCR API deducts the same number of points as the corresponding individual API.
For example, a successful call to the Unified OCR API to recognize an ID card deducts 10 points. A successful call to the individual ID card recognition API also deducts 10 points.

Dedicated resource plans
Product description
Dedicated resource plans are purchased in units of API calls, not points. Each successful API call deducts one call from your quota.
Dedicated resource plans can be used only for the specified API.
You cannot convert purchased dedicated resource plans to shared resource plans, or vice versa.

Resource plan details
The following details apply to both dedicated and shared resource plans.
Validity period
Resource plans are valid for one year from the date of purchase and expire automatically.
After a resource plan expires, any remaining quota cannot be used.
If you purchase multiple resource plans for the same feature, the system deducts from the plan with the earliest expiration date first.
If multiple resource plans for the same feature have the same expiration date, deductions are made from one of them at random.

Deduction rules
You must activate the OCR service to use OCR resource plans. When you activate the service, the pay-as-you-go billing method is enabled by default.
If your resource plans expire or are fully used, billing automatically switches to the pay-as-you-go billing method.
The system first deducts from an available dedicated resource plan for the API. If the dedicated resource plan is insufficient, the system then deducts from a shared resource plan.
For the Unified OCR API, deductions for Standard and Advanced tier image scenarios are metered separately. For mixed image types, deductions are based on the number of successfully recognized sub-images.
Resource plan quotas and alert settings
You can configure resource plan quotas and alert settings on the Settings page in the OCR console.
Viewing resource plan data
In the OCR console, you can go to the Data Monitoring page to view API call data. The Settings page also provides a shortcut to the Alibaba Cloud Expenses and Costs console, where you can view detailed data on resource plan usage.
