(Optional) Billing rules for cold data archiving

Updated at:

When you enable cold data archiving, cold data is separated from the source table and archived to Object Storage Service (OSS). PolarDB charges fees based on the storage usage of cold data in OSS. This topic describes the billing rules for cold data archiving. In addition, PolarDB provides storage plans to help you reduce costs.

Prices

The Chinese mainland

China (Hong Kong) and other regions

CNY 0.00021 per GB-hour

CNY 0.000294 per GB-hour

For example, if you archive 100 GB of cold data for a cluster in the Chinese mainland, the hourly fee is 100 GB × CNY 0.00021 per GB-hour = CNY 0.021 per hour.

Note

For more information about how to view the amount of archived cold data, see View cold data archiving information.

Storage plans

You can use storage plans to offset the storage usage for cold data archiving.

Note

Storage plans can also be used to offset the storage usage for storage space, level-1 backups or data backups, level-2 backups, and log backups.

Prices

The prices of storage plans vary based on the subscription duration and specifications. The larger the capacity and the longer the subscription duration, the more cost-effective the storage plan. For more information about the prices, see Price comparison table.

Note

PolarDB has launched a resource plan calculator. You can estimate the required storage capacity based on your business needs and usage duration to obtain recommendations on storage plan specifications.

Deduction rules

A storage plan provides a fixed hourly quota to offset the storage usage for cold data archiving. For example, if you purchase a 100 GB storage plan, you are entitled to a fixed quota of 100 GB per hour to offset the corresponding storage usage.

Example: Use a storage plan to offset a cluster's cold data archiving usage

If your Alibaba Cloud account has a 50 GB storage plan and the following PolarDB clusters:

The following list describes how the 50 GB storage plan is used for offset:

  • Cluster A: Cold data archiving is enabled, but no cold data has been archived. The current data volume is 0 MB, so no offset is needed.

  • Cluster B: Cold data archiving is disabled, so no offset is needed.

  • The deduction amount for Cluster C is calculated as 110 GB (cold data archiving data volume) × 0.045 (deduction factor), resulting in a total deduction of 4.95 GB. The storage plan Remaining Amount After Deduction is 45.05 GB (50 GB - 4.95 GB).

  • Cluster E: Cold data archiving is not supported, so no offset is needed.

To sum up, a total of 4.95 GB is offset. The Remaining Balance of the storage plan is 45.05 GB (50 GB - 4.95 GB).

Note

This example describes only how to offset the storage usage of cold data archiving for a PolarDB cluster. Other types of storage usage, such as cluster storage, level-1 backups/data backups, level-2 backups, or log backups, are not included in this example.
