Backup method 1: Automatic backup
Automatic backup is enabled by default. PolarDB automatically backs up data based on the configured backup policy to ensure periodic backups and data security. When a cluster is created, PolarDB automatically performs data backup once a day. You can configure the automatic backup frequency and retention period in the console based on your business requirements.
Precautions
-
Automatic backup files cannot be deleted. You can set the retention period for automatic backup files by configuring Data Backup Retention Period in the backup settings.
-
After a snapshot backup is created, data modifications increase the size of the snapshot backup, resulting in higher backup costs. Defragmentation also involves data modifications, which increases the snapshot backup size.
Example: Assume that the database contains 100 GB of data. After a snapshot backup is created, 10 GB of data in the database is modified. Then:
-
You are charged for 100 GB of data storage and 10 GB of snapshot backup storage.
-
If you delete the database and retain the snapshot backups, you are charged for 100 GB of snapshot backup storage.
-
Configure an automatic backup policy
-
Log in to the PolarDB console,In the navigation pane on the left, click Clusters. Select the Region where the cluster is deployed, and then find the target cluster。
-
In the left-side navigation pane, choose .
-
On the Backup Policy Settings tab, click Modify.
-
In the Backup Policy Settings dialog box, configure the Data Backup, Log Backup, and General policies. For more information about the parameters, see Configure backup policy settings.
-
After the backup settings are configured, click OK.
FAQ
Q: After a cluster is released and deleted, level-2 backup fees are still generated. How do I delete or disable the generated level-2 backup files?
A: After a cluster is released, if you selected Automatically back up the cluster when it is released and permanently retain all backup sets of the cluster or Automatically back up the cluster when it is released and permanently retain the backup set, the following applies:
-
For clusters with PSL4/PSL5 storage type, level-1 backups are automatically converted to level-2 backups and retained in the Cluster recycle bin. A small fee is charged.
-
For clusters with ESSD cloud disk storage type, data backups are retained in the Cluster recycle bin. A small fee is charged.
You can delete backups of released clusters at any time to reduce costs.
