To collaborate on a dataset, you grant other users permission to use or co-edit it. This topic describes how to grant these permissions.
Background
An organization administrator, permission administrator, workspace administrator, or resource owner (creator) can grant permissions. The following table explains the icons used to indicate permission availability:
Indicates that the user can be granted this permission.
Indicates that the user cannot be granted this permission.

The permissions are defined as follows:
Edit permission: A user can be granted the Edit permission for a specific dataset if their assigned workspace role includes the Create (Edit) Dataset functional permission. A user with this permission can create, edit, replace, and delete the dataset.
Use permission: A user can be granted the Use permission for a specific dataset if their assigned workspace or organization role includes the Use Dataset functional permission. A user with this permission can use the dataset for data analysis.
Entry points
Log on to the Quick BI console. You can open the Collaborative Authorization settings for a dataset from the following locations:
On the Datasets page of a workspace, find the dataset and open its Collaborative Authorization settings.

On the dataset preview page, open the Collaborative Authorization settings for the current dataset.

On the dataset editing page, go to the Advanced Settings tab to open the Collaborative Authorization settings for the current dataset.

Grant Edit permission
By default, a dataset is private, and only the resource owner and workspace administrators have the Edit permission. To grant this permission to specific members, you must first change the authorization setting.
When you select Specified Members, you can grant the Edit permission to developers in the current workspace.
When you select All Workspace Members, all eligible members in the workspace can edit the dataset.
On the Collaborative Authorization page, grant the permission.
The following figure shows an example where Specified Members is selected to grant the Edit permission to developer B.

developer B logs on to the Quick BI console. They can now access and edit the dataset.

Grant Use permission
You can grant the Use permission to any user in your organization whose role includes the Use Dataset functional permission. This covers two categories of users:
Workspace members: Members whose assigned workspace role qualifies them for the Use permission on a dataset.
Organization members: Members whose assigned organization role qualifies them for the Use permission on a dataset.
Scope of use after authorization:
The actions a user can perform depend on whether they are in the same workspace as the dataset:
Members of the same workspace: Can create dashboards, workbooks, and other assets using the dataset.
Members of other workspaces: Can perform exploratory analysis using the dataset.
On the Collaborative Authorization page, grant the permission.
Grant the Use permission for the dataset to developer B.

developer B logs on to the Quick BI console. They can now use the dataset to create dashboards, workbooks, and ad hoc queries for data analysis.

developer B can also use the dataset for exploratory analysis.
NoteThe exploratory analysis feature is currently in invitation-only preview.
Request Use permission
If users need to use a dataset but lack the required permission, they can request it as shown in the following figure.
