If you cannot connect to a server using Workbench or a third-party remote connection tool such as PuTTY, Xshell, or SecureCRT, use a rescue connection (VNC) to access the server and troubleshoot issues.
Rescue connections do not support file uploads or downloads. In low-bandwidth network environments, you may experience delays, stuttering, or poor image quality. For regular access, we recommend connecting to your Simple Application Server using Workbench or a third-party client. For more information, see Connect to a Linux server and Connect to a Windows server.
Use cases
-
Troubleshooting
If you cannot connect to a server using Workbench or a third-party remote connection tool due to high vCPU usage or SSH configuration changes, you can use a VNC connection to troubleshoot the server.
-
Log on to a graphical user interface (GUI)
After setting up a graphical user interface (GUI) on an operating system like Ubuntu, you can use a VNC connection to access the server.
Prerequisites
-
You have set a password for the Simple Application Server. For more information, see Set or reset server passwords.
-
The Simple Application Server is in the Running state.
Procedure
A rescue connection session automatically disconnects after about 300 seconds of inactivity. If your session disconnects, you must reconnect.
-
Go to the Servers page in the Simple Application Server console.
-
On the server card, click Connect.

-
In the Connect dialog box, in the Rescue Logon section, click Log on Now.
The system automatically redirects you to the rescue logon page. If the page does not open, check whether your browser is blocking pop-up windows.

-
Connect to the server using the rescue connection.
Linux server

The following figure shows a successful logon.

You can press CTRL+ALT+F1 through CTRL+ALT+F10 to switch between different VNC terminals. Each terminal can run a different program. The default terminal is CTRL+ALT+F1. For example, in the upper-left corner of the rescue connection page, select to switch to CTRL+ALT+F2.
