If you use the new billing service, this topic explains the key differences between the new and old versions and the meaning of the fields in reports such as Bill Details, Split Bill, and Cost Details.

New and legacy billing versions

Alibaba Cloud provides both new and legacy billing versions. After you enable the new version:

  • In the new version, you can view bills generated on or after the date the new version was enabled.

  • In the legacy version, you can view historical bills from before the new version was enabled and all subsequent billing data.

For example, if you enable the new version on November 1, you can view bills generated on or after that date in the new version. In the legacy version, you can view historical bills from before November 1 and all subsequent billing data.

Bill version

Description

Version UI

New version

Alibaba Cloud has introduced a new version that improves upon the legacy version. The main changes are as follows:

  • Upgraded Bill Details and Split Bill to a new, structured bill format.

  • Added the Cost Details and bill subscription features.

Other bill types, such as Overview of Monthly Bill and Allocated Cost, are the same as in the legacy version.

New billing details page: In the upper-right corner of the page, click the Back to Old Version button to switch to the legacy version. The filter area allows you to filter by criteria such as billing month, enterprise/organization/account, product name, item name, transaction type, resource name/instance ID, and order number. The structured bill table below includes columns for identification information (order number), identity information (purchasing account ID, purchasing account, owning account ID, owning account), service entity, billing month, bill date, and transaction type.

Legacy version

The original version available in the Expenses and Costs console.

Legacy billing details page: The filter area includes criteria such as Statistic Item (by billable item or instance), Statistic Period (by month, day, or details), Billing Month, Product Name, Item Name, resource group, and Resource Name/Instance ID. The results table displays columns such as purchasing account, owning account, billing month, cost type, and product and item information. In the upper-right corner of the page, you can click the View Upgraded Version button to switch to the new version.

Note

If you use the new Back to Old Version page, the fields and data in bills generated before the upgrade remain unchanged. You can click the Back to Old Version button to switch to the legacy version to view this data.

The legacy version is being gradually phased out. Users included in this rollout can no longer switch back to the legacy version.

Amount After Subscription Deduction

Subscription Deduct Details

SubscriptionDetails/SubscriptionDeductDetails

Details of the deduction from a subscription (such as a Savings Plan). Includes the Savings Plan discount, Savings Plan instance ID, type, and commitment.

For example, a Savings Plan subscription has an hourly commitment of 2/hour and can be applied to ecs.g6.xlarge instances. The standard pay-as-you-go price is 1/instance/hour. In the China (Shanghai) region, the Savings Plan for the ecs.g6 instance family offers a 60% discount, reducing the price to 40% of the original. The discounted price is 1 USD × 0.4 = 0.4/instance/hour. This Savings Plan can cover the pay-as-you-go costs for up to 2 / 0.4 = 5 ecs.g6.xlarge instances per hour.

If you run 5 instances for one hour, the billing data for this period is as follows:

Subscription Deduct Gross Amount = 1 USD/instance/hour × 5 instances × 1 hour = 5.

Because the Savings Plan is fully utilized, the Amount After Subscription Deduction is 0.

The Subscription Deduct Amount is the portion of the Savings Plan commitment that was consumed, which is 2.

Parameter (console)

Parameter (OSS subscription)

Description

Subscription Deduct Gross Amount

SubscriptionDetails/SubscriptionDeductGrossAmount

Specifies the gross list price for a pay-as-you-go instance covered by a Savings Plan.

Subscription Deduct Discount

SubscriptionDetail/SubscriptionDeductDiscount

The pricing multiplier from the Savings Plan. For example, a value of 0.4 means the final price is 40% of the list price.

For example, a Savings Plan with an hourly commitment of 2CNY/hour covers ecs.g6.xlarge instances, which have a standard pay-as-you-go price of 1CNY/instance/hour. In the China (Shanghai) region, the plan for the ecs.g6 instance family provides a 60% discount off the pay-as-you-go rate, resulting in a discounted price of 0.4CNY/instance/hour (1 × 0.4). This plan can cover the pay-as-you-go charges for up to 5 ecs.g6.xlarge instances each hour (2 ÷ 0.4).

If you run 5 instances for one hour, the values for that billing period are as follows:

Subscription Deduct Discount = 0.4 (which corresponds to a 60% discount)

Subscription Deduct Gross Amount = 1CNY/instance/hour × 5 instances × 1 hour = 5CNY
