A cloud computer's specifications determine its performance level. These specifications define its computing resources, such as vCPU, memory, and video memory. You can upgrade or downgrade the specifications of a cloud computer to match your workload requirements. This topic describes how to resize a cloud computer.

Background

Resizing a cloud computer only affects its computing resources. This operation does not impact its storage resources or user data. Because the prices of the original and new specifications may differ, resizing can result in additional charges or a refund.

The limitations for different types of resize operations are as follows:

Billing method

Resize type

Limitations

All

All

  • Only cloud desktops of the same specification type support mutual configuration changes, that is, office-type specifications and graphics-type specifications cannot be changed between each other。

  • Only supports changing from one cloud desktop specification to another cloud desktop specification, you cannot individually modify configurations within a cloud desktop specification。

  • For the same cloud desktop, the interval between two configuration change operations must not be less than5minutes。

Monthly subscription (unlimited hours)

Upgrade

  • You must pay the price difference for the remainder of the current billing cycle.

  • If you have renewed your subscription or performed a downgrade within the current billing cycle, you cannot upgrade the cloud computer until the next billing cycle begins.

  • To convert a monthly subscription (unlimited hours) to one with a compute package, see Convert Billing Plan for Monthly Hour Package.

Downgrade

  • You can downgrade the specifications of a cloud computer a maximum of three times per month. Once this limit is reached, you cannot perform another downgrade until the quota is automatically reset on the first day of the next month.

  • The refund is calculated using the following formula: Refund Amount = Remaining Duration × (Price Difference between Old and New Specifications / Total Duration). The actual refund amount is shown on the user interface. Refunds are issued to the original payment method. Used coupons are not refunded.

    Note

In this formula, Remaining Duration is the active subscription time left before the downgrade, and Price Difference is the cost difference between the original and new specifications.

Monthly subscription with compute package

All

  • Resizing this type of cloud computer involves unsubscribing from the current one and purchasing a new one. This action results in a refund for the old subscription and a new pending payment for the new one.

  • To convert a subscription with a compute package to one with unlimited hours, see Convert Monthly Hour-based Billing Plan.

Important

The unsubscribed cloud computer will be released. Before you proceed, make sure you have backed up all important data to a secure location.

Prerequisites

  • The cloud computer must be in the Stopped status. For instructions, see Start, Stop, Restart, or Release Cloud Computers.

  • Before you resize a cloud computer, ensure that it has no pending orders. Otherwise, the operation may fail. If there are pending orders, in the top navigation bar of the console, click Price. In the left-side navigation pane of the Expenses and Costs page, click Orders > My Orders. Then, pay for or cancel the pending orders.

Resize a single cloud computer

  1. Log on to the Elastic Desktop Service Enterprise console.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Resources > Cloud Computers.

  3. In the top navigation bar, select a region.

  4. On the Cloud Computers page, find the target cloud computer and, in the Actions column, click More > Change Type.

  5. In the Change Configurations panel, perform one of the following operations based on the billing method:

    • For a pay-as-you-go cloud computer, select the target specifications and click Change.

    • For a monthly subscription (unlimited hours) cloud computer, select the target specifications on the Upgrade Configurations or Downgrade tab and click Change.

    • For a monthly subscription cloud computer with a compute package, select the target specifications, a compute package, and a subscription duration, and then click OK.

The panel displays any additional charges or refund amounts at the bottom. During the resize process, the cloud computer's status changes to Changing Specifications on the Cloud Computers page.

Resize multiple cloud computers

  1. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Resources > Cloud Computers.

  2. In the top navigation bar, select a region.

  3. On the Cloud Computer Enterprise Edition page, select multiple cloud computers that are in the Stopped state, and at the bottom of the cloud computer list, click More>Change Type.

    Note

You can resize up to 100 cloud computers at once.

  4. In the Change Configurations panel, in the Filter Cloud Computer section, select the cloud computers that you want to resize, and click Next.

    Note

You can only resize multiple cloud computers at once if they have the same billing method. If you select cloud computers with different billing methods, you must filter them by billing method and resize each group separately.
