Migrate a dedicated host with failure risks

If a dedicated host has failure risks, it is still available. However, the dedicated host and the Elastic Compute Service (ECS) instances on it may fail at any time. You can migrate the dedicated host to another dedicated host to protect your services.

Prerequisites

All ECS instances on the dedicated host are stopped.

Warning

Service interruptions may occur when you stop instances. We recommend that you stop instances during off-peak hours.

Limits

You cannot migrate a local SSD dedicated host yourself. To do so, you must submit a ticket to request a manual migration. Be aware that data on the local disks will be cleared during this process.

Impacts

After all the ECS instances on the dedicated host are migrated to another dedicated host, the host ID and the metadata of the ECS instances remain unchanged. This metadata includes the instance ID, private IP address, and public IP address of each ECS instance. However, the machine ID of the dedicated host is changed.

Procedure

  1. Log in to the ECS console.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Instances & Images > icon1 > Dedicated Hosts.

  3. In the upper-left corner of the page, select a region and resource group.地域

  4. Find the target DDH. In the Status column, hover over Physical Machine Risk. In the Error dialog box that appears, click Change Host.

The Note dialog box displays the following message: Alibaba Cloud has detected a risk of physical failure on the current host. To avoid unnecessary business impact, plan a maintenance window and change the host as soon as possible. This operation does not change your ECS instance configurations.

  5. Perform operations based on the dedicated host type.

    • If the DDH is not a local SSD dedicated host, click OK.

    • If the DDH is a local SSD dedicated host, click Submit Ticket.

      Warning

The data on the local SSDs of the dedicated host will be lost after the migration.
