This topic describes basic terms related to Internet Content Provider (ICP) filing to help you quickly understand the process.
Term | Description |
ICP filing | The People's Republic of China requires an ICP filing for non-commercial Internet Information Services and an ICP license for commercial Internet Information Services. Websites or apps without an official ICP filing or license are prohibited from providing Internet Information Services. Therefore, all websites and apps that provide services to the Chinese mainland must obtain an ICP filing before they can be launched. |
ICP number | After your ICP filing is approved, the communications administration bureau issues an ICP number. The bureau assigns one ICP number to the entity and another to the website or app. |
Service code | A Filing Service code is a verification code that you use in the Alibaba Cloud ICP Filing system. This code associates your ICP filing information with an Alibaba Cloud server. For example: 32a43232-a888-88e8-b9ec-00888be8****. To apply for a service code, you must purchase an Elastic Compute Service (ECS) instance, a website building product from the Marketplace, or an Internet of Things (IoT) bandwidth plan that meets the ICP filing requirements of Alibaba Cloud. . |
Service provider | A service provider hosts the servers for your website or app and helps you with the ICP filing process. |
Entity | The individual or organization that applies for the ICP filing. |
Initial ICP filing | If an entity and a domain name have never had an ICP filing, you must complete an initial ICP filing through the Alibaba Cloud ICP Filing system before your website or app can be accessed. |
Add Alibaba Cloud as a service provider | If your website or app obtained an ICP number through another service provider and you are now switching to an Alibaba Cloud server for hosting, you must add Alibaba Cloud as your service provider in the ICP filing system. |
Add Internet Information Services | There are two scenarios for adding a new Internet Information Service:
|
Modify ICP filing information | If your website or app has an ICP number from Alibaba Cloud and information about the entity or the website or app changes, you must promptly update your filing information through Alibaba Cloud. |
Claim ICP filing information | If you obtained an ICP filing through the former HiChina platform before June 1, 2010, and have not since added another service provider or imported the filing information into your Alibaba Cloud account, you must claim the original HiChina ICP filing. |
Remove Alibaba Cloud as service provider | This action removes the association of your website or app's ICP filing information with the Alibaba Cloud ICP Filing system. After the removal, Alibaba Cloud is no longer your service provider. Your domain name cannot resolve to Alibaba Cloud servers in the Chinese mainland and becomes inaccessible. However, your ICP filing with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) still exists. |
Cancel an ICP filing | If you no longer use an entity, website, or app that has an ICP filing, you must cancel its ICP filing. |
