This topic describes how to quickly purchase a PolarDB cluster on the Quick Purchase page in the PolarDB console.

Prerequisites

You have signed up for an Alibaba Cloud account and are logged in. For more information, see Register and log on to an Alibaba Cloud account.

Note

PolarDB provides the price calculator and resource plan calculator. You can use the calculators to obtain information about the product pricing, estimate costs, and select a product type that meets your business requirements.

Price calculator: allows you to estimate the overall cost based on the details and storage capacity of the cluster that you select.
Resource plan calculator: allows you to estimate required compute capacity and storage capacity based on your business requirements and usage duration. The calculator can also provide recommendations on the specifications of storage plans and compute plans for clusters with defined specifications.

Procedure

Step 1: Complete basic configuration

You can go to the PolarDBQuick Purchase page. You can quickly create a PolarDB for MySQL cluster with minimal configurations. The following table describes the parameters. You can keep the default values for other settings. For more information about the cluster creation process, see Custom purchase.

Parameter	Description
Billing Method	Subscription: You select fixed-specification resources and pay upfront. Longer periods offer larger discounts. Best for stable, long-term workloads. Pay-as-you-go: You select fixed-specification resources and pay only for actual usage, with no upfront cost. Best for flexible workloads. Serverless: A pay-as-you-go model. PolarDB automatically scales resources based on workload, with no upfront cost or specification selection. Best for fluctuating, uncertain, or unpredictable workloads. Note For a detailed comparison of billing methods, see Billing methods. Change the billing method Rules: Subscription and Pay-as-you-go support conversion between each other. Serverless does not support conversion of the billing method.
Region	Select the region where you want to create the cluster. Note Ensure that your PolarDB cluster and the ECS instance to which you want to connect are created in the same region. Otherwise, they cannot communicate over an internal network and can only communicate over the Internet, which does not deliver optimal performance.
Database Engine	Select the Database engine. MySQL 8.0.1 MySQL 8.0.2 Note The Quick Purchase page supports only MySQL 8.0 clusters. To purchase a cluster that runs a different MySQL version, switch to the Custom Purchase tab in the upper-left corner.
Service Edition	Select the Edition. Enterprise Edition Standard Edition Note Enterprise Edition and Standard Edition have different features. For more information, see Differences between Enterprise Edition and Standard Edition.
Network Type	Configure the VPC and vSwitch for the cluster. Note If you have created a VPC that meets your network plan, you can directly select the VPC and vSwitch. For example, if you have created an ECS instance and the VPC where the ECS instance resides meets your plan, you can select the VPC and vSwitch. If you have not created a VPC that meets your network plan, you can use the default VPC and vSwitch.
Deployment Mode(Optional)	Select the number of nodes and the high-availability mode for the cluster. For more information, see High-availability mode (hot standby cluster). Single node: includes only one primary node (read/write node). Number of nodes: 1. High-availability mode: single-zone (hot standby storage cluster disabled). Dual-node high availability: includes one primary node (read/write node) and one read-only node. Number of nodes: 2. High-availability mode: single-zone (hot standby storage cluster disabled). Cross-AZ high availability: includes one primary node (read/write node) and one read-only node. Data is distributed across multiple zones, with a complete copy in both the primary and secondary zones. Number of nodes: 2. High-availability mode: Dual-zone (hot standby storage cluster enabled). Triple-zone strong consistency deployment: Disabled. Note You need to select the high-availability mode only when the Billing type is Subscription or Pay-as-you-go.
Node Specifications	Select the compute node specifications for the cluster. You can select specifications based on your actual needs. To purchase other specifications, switch to the Custom Purchase tab in the upper-left corner.
Storage capacity(Optional)	Configure the storage capacity for the cluster. Note You need to select the high-availability mode only when the Billing type is Subscription or Pay-as-you-go, and the Edition is Standard Edition.

Step 2: (Optional) Configure advanced cluster options

Parameter	Description
Resource Group	Select a target resource group from the Create a resource group. Note A resource group is a container that manages a group of related resources under a single Alibaba Cloud account. A resource can belong to only one resource group.
Parameter Template	Select a user-defined or system-default parameter template. Note The parameter template drop-down list displays all user-defined and system-default parameter templates.
Time zone	Set the time zone for the cluster. The default time zone is UTC+08:00.
Table name case sensitivity	Specify whether table names in the cluster are case-sensitive. You can select Not Case-Sensitive (Default). If your on-premises database is case-sensitive, you can select Case-Sensitive to facilitate data migration. Note This parameter cannot be modified after the cluster is created. Proceed with caution.

Step 3: Configure quantity and confirm order

Parameter	Description
Review configurations	Confirm that all settings, such as Billing Method, Region, Deployment Mode, Resource Group, meet your business requirements.
Specify the Quantity.	If you selected the Subscription billing method at the beginning, you must also specify the Subscription Duration of the cluster and select whether to enable Auto-Renewal. Note You can create up to 50 clusters at a time. This is suitable for scenarios such as batch game server launches. Each Alibaba Cloud account can purchase up to 50 clusters. If you selected the Subscription, we recommend that you enable Auto-Renewal to prevent service interruptions caused by overdue payments.
Confirm terms of service	Read and agree to the Alibaba Cloud Terms of Service and User Agreement.
Verify fees	Review the total cost and the detailed cost breakdown (such as compute specifications, storage, and network).
Make payment	On the Purchase page, confirm the unpaid order information, select a payment method, and then click Purchase.
Wait for cluster creation	After the purchase is complete, cluster creation takes 10 to 15 minutes. You can then view the new cluster in the cluster list. Note When the node status in the cluster is Creating, the cluster may still be under creation and is not available. The cluster is available only when the cluster status changes to Running.

FAQ

Can't find your cluster after creation?

If you cannot find your PolarDB cluster in the cluster list, troubleshoot the issue by performing the following steps:

Confirm that cluster creation is complete: Cluster creation typically takes 10 to 15 minutes. Refresh the cluster list after creation is complete. When the node status is Creating, the cluster is not available. The cluster is available only when the status changes to Running. You can also call the DescribeDBClusters API operation to query the cluster status.
Verify that the region is correct: PolarDB clusters are displayed by region. Check the selected region at the top of the page. If no cluster exists in the current region, the page displays a prompt with the region that has resources. Click the prompt link to switch to that region.
Find the purchase region from your order: If you are not sure which region your cluster is in, go to Billing Management > Orders > My Orders, filter by PolarDB (Cloud-Native Database), and check the region in the purchase record. Then return to the PolarDB console and select the correct region. You can also call the ListOrders API operation or check the order status in the Billing Management console.
