Query bills

Updated at:

This topic describes how to view the detailed costs of your ApsaraDB RDS instances, including charges for storage, SQL Audit, instance backups, and performance monitoring.

Procedure

  1. Log on to the Alibaba Cloud Management Console.

  2. In the upper-right corner of the page, choose Fee > Expenses and Costs.

  3. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Bills > Bill Details.

  4. Set filters to query the bill details.

You can query data only within a single calendar month. For example, you cannot select a time range from January 10, 2022 to February 10, 2022.

FAQ

  • What are the additional hourly charges for my subscription ApsaraDB RDS instance?

A subscription fee covers only the instance type and storage space. Using services such as a read-only instance, SQL Explorer, paid performance monitoring, and a database proxy, as well as exceeding the free quota for backup storage, incurs additional fees. You can view these charges on the Bill Details page in the Billable Item column. For a detailed description of each billable item, see Billable items.

  • Are you charged for idle pay-as-you-go and Serverless instances?

Yes. Because a pay-as-you-go or Serverless instance continues to reserve compute and storage resources when idle, you are still charged hourly.

  • Is Internet traffic free for both pay-as-you-go and subscription instances? Does this apply to both inbound and outbound traffic?

Yes. All inbound and outbound Internet traffic for both pay-as-you-go and subscription instances is free.

  • In my billing details, I see multiple records where the Product Code is DMS, the Product Name is Database Backup DBS, and the Billing Item is Backup Storage Capacity. However, RDS has its own built-in backup management feature. Why am I being charged for backups under DMS?

The backup storage for RDS instances with cloud disks is provided by Database Backup Service (DBS) and was originally billed under the DBS product.

Starting from June 25, 2025, Alibaba Cloud will integrate the product capabilities of DBS and DMS. The related backup storage billing items have been uniformly migrated to be billed under DMS. Therefore, the entry "Database Backup DBS – Backup Storage Capacity" under DMS in your bill is not a duplicate charge. It is only an adjustment of the billing attribution; you are not actually being charged twice.
