Configure security settings for an Alibaba Cloud account

Protect your Alibaba Cloud account by changing the logon password or enabling multi-factor authentication (MFA).

Background information

MFA adds an extra layer of protection beyond your password. After MFA is enabled, you must enter both your logon password and a verification code generated by an MFA device to access the Alibaba Cloud Management Console.

Change the logon password

Log on to the Alibaba Cloud console security settings page with your Alibaba Cloud account.
In the Login Password section of the Security Settings page, click Change.
Change the logon password as prompted.

Important

Your logon password is used to access the Alibaba Cloud Management Console. Keep it confidential.
Change your logon password every 90 days to prevent account theft.

Enable MFA

Note

Download and install the Alibaba Cloud app or Google Authenticator app on your mobile device before you proceed.

Log on to the Alibaba Cloud console security settings page with your Alibaba Cloud account.
In the VirtualMFA section, click Modify.
In the Verify identity step, verify your identity as prompted.
Log on to the Google Authenticator app or Alibaba Cloud app on your mobile device, scan the QR code in the Enable MFA step, and click OK.

The Google Authenticator app or Alibaba Cloud App will generate a 6-digit verification code for your Alibaba Cloud account.

Note
The verification code is updated every 30 seconds.
In the Enable the MFA step, enter the verification code and click Next.

MFA is enabled when the system confirms that the MFA device is bound.
