Problem description
An Alibaba Mail user fails to send an email and receives a bounce email that contains the following message:
502 Mailfrom account is a local accountCauses
1. When an Alibaba Mail user sends an email from a local client, the outbound server address must be set to smtp.qiye.aliyun.com and the port must be set to 25. The encrypted port is 465. This error occurs if the outbound server address in the local client is set to a proxy server or another server.
2. The sender's or recipient's domain was previously used for an Alibaba Mail mailbox. The domain has since been moved to another email service provider, but its mailbox record still exists in the Alibaba Cloud system. When this domain is used to communicate with an Alibaba Mail account, an identity authentication failure occurs, which causes the email delivery to fail.
Solutions
1. Send emails using the Alibaba Mail SMTP server. For more information, see IMAP, POP, and SMTP addresses and ports for Alibaba Mail.
2. Check whether the other party previously used Alibaba Mail. This includes Alibaba Mail and the email service for Alibaba.com. If they did, detach the domain from the Alibaba Mail system using one of the following methods.
Alibaba Mail: Change the domain name of your current email service to another domain name. This detaches the email domain from the Alibaba Cloud platform. For more information, see Change the domain name attached to Alibaba Mail.
