After logging on to the personal edition client, the client displays your personal edition cloud computers as cards or icons. This topic describes how to perform common tasks from a cloud computer card.

Important

This topic uses the macOS client 8.5.5 as an example. If your experience differs from what is described in this topic, you may be using a different client type or an older version. We recommend that you update your client to the latest version.

Prerequisites

You have logged on to the client. For more information, see Log on to and configure the personal edition client.

Power management

A cloud computer works like a regular computer. You can start, shut down, restart, or put it to sleep. You can manage the power state from the cloud computer list in the client.

Start

If a cloud computer card shows a status of Stopped, you can click the Start button in the lower-right corner. After the cloud computer starts, its status changes to Running.

If the cloud computer status is Sleeping, click the wake icon in the lower-right corner to start it.

Shut down

Important

Shutting down a cloud computer terminates all running processes and may cause you to lose unsaved files and data. Before you shut down the cloud computer, save or back up your data.

Shut down immediately

You can immediately shut down a cloud computer in the following ways:

  • Shut down the cloud computer from within the session.

    • Click the floating navigation ball, click Shut down, and then click OK.

  • Shut down the cloud computer from the client. After disconnecting from the cloud computer, on the cloud computer card, select and click OK.

    Note

If you are using the web client, you can shut down the cloud computer only from its card.

Scheduled shutdown

You can use a scheduled disconnection policy to automatically shut down a cloud computer after a specified period of disconnection.

  1. On the cloud computer card, click Manage, and then click Policy.

  2. In the Scheduled Disconnection Policy section, turn on the switch, select a disconnection duration, and set the action to Shut down.

Restart

Important

Restarting a cloud computer terminates all running processes and may cause you to lose unsaved files and data. Before you restart the cloud computer, save or back up your data.

You can restart a cloud computer in the following ways:

  • Restart the cloud computer from within the session.

    • Click the floating navigation ball, click Restart, and then click OK.

  • Restart the cloud computer from the client. After disconnecting from the cloud computer, on the cloud computer card, select and click OK.

    Note

If you are using the web client, you can restart the cloud computer only from its card.

Sleep

Putting a cloud computer to sleep saves all its files and processes. After you wake the cloud computer, you can resume your work from where you left off.

Note
  • Only subscription cloud computers support the sleep feature. session package cloud computers do not support this feature.

  • The sleep feature is available for Economy mode, Standard mode, and Performance mode, but not for Graphics mode.

  • If a cloud computer remains asleep for 15 consecutive days, it is automatically shut down. Be sure to save your data regularly.

  • Only cloud computers that are Running or In Use can enter sleep. Sleeping cloud computers do not support creating or restoring restore points.

Sleep immediately

  1. On the cloud computer card, select .

  2. In the confirmation dialog box, click Sleep Now.

    Note

A sleeping cloud computer's card shows a Sleeping status. To start the cloud computer, click the wake icon in the lower-right corner. It typically takes about 30 seconds to wake up the cloud computer. After a cloud computer enters sleep, billing stops.

Scheduled sleep

You can use a scheduled disconnection policy to automatically put a cloud computer to sleep after a specified period of disconnection.

  1. On the cloud computer card, click Manage, and then click Policy.

  2. In the Scheduled Disconnection Policy section, turn on the switch, select a disconnection duration, and set the action to Sleep.

Connect and disconnect

Connect

If the cloud computer card shows a status of Running, you can click the connection icon in the lower-right corner.

If the cloud computer card shows a status of In Use, click the show window icon in the lower-right corner to display the cloud computer window.

Disconnect

After connecting to a cloud computer, you can disconnect from the session in the following ways:

  • If the cloud computer is not in full-screen mode, click the icon in the upper-right corner of the window and click Disconnect in the confirmation dialog box.

  • Click the floating navigation ball, and then click Disconnect.

Note

Disconnecting does not cause data loss because the cloud computer continues to run; however, billing continues. To stop billing when you are not using the cloud computer, you can create a scheduled disconnection policy to automatically shut down or put the cloud computer to sleep after it has been disconnected for a specified period. For more information, see Set a scheduled disconnection policy.
