Learn about the billing methods, billable items, and billing cycles of Global Accelerator (GA).

Note

Alibaba Cloud offers a free trial of pay-as-you-go standard Global Accelerator instances for first-time enterprise GA users. Apply at Alibaba Cloud Free Trial. Tutorial: Accelerate access to backend services with specified IP addresses.

Billing methods

  • Global Accelerator instances support the pay-as-you-go and subscription billing methods.

  • Bandwidth for the Alibaba Cloud global transmission network supports the Pay-by-data-transfer and Pay-by-bandwidth metering methods:

    • Pay-by-data-transfer: Data transfer fees are managed by Cloud Data Transfer (CDT). CDT supports the pay-as-you-go billing method.

No basic bandwidth plan is required for your Global Accelerator instance. Fees are based on service deployment location and include Internet traffic and inter-region data transfer fees. Pay-by-data-transfer.

    • Pay-by-bandwidth: Bandwidth plans use the subscription billing method.

This metering method requires a basic bandwidth plan for your Global Accelerator instance. Bandwidth plan types.

Scenarios

Pay-as-you-go

Pay-by-data-transfer

  • Temporary traffic spikes.

  • Multiple pay-by-data-transfer resources are active in your account.

  • Large traffic fluctuations.

If you cannot estimate resource usage and data transfer volume, use pay-as-you-go Global Accelerator instances.

Subscription

Pay-by-bandwidth

  • Predictable resource usage duration.

  • Traffic is stable.

  • Long-term resource needs.

Important
  • The first time you use a pay-as-you-go GA instance, you must Activate Service.

  • You can purchase GA resource plans to offset the compute unit (CU) fees and instance fees of pay-as-you-go Global Accelerator instances. Resource plans are more cost-effective than the pay-as-you-go billing method. For more information, see GA resource plans.

  • The billing method can only be selected when purchasing a Global Accelerator instance and cannot be changed later.

Reasons for overdue payments

  • You have not purchased a resource plan, and the balance of your account is insufficient.

  • You have purchased a resource plan, but the plan cannot offset all fees.

Pay-as-you-go

Pay-by-data-transfer

If your Alibaba Cloud account has an overdue payment (a generated bill cannot be paid), you are notified by text message and email.

  • If your account has an overdue payment but the overdue amount is within the quota of service suspension protection, your Global Accelerator instance can still provide services.

    Note

Alibaba Cloud provides the extended suspension-free benefit. When a pay-as-you-go resource is overdue, you can continue to use cloud services for a certain amount or duration. Normal fees apply during the extended period. For more information, see Extended Suspension-Free Benefit.

  • If the overdue payment exceeds the quota of service suspension protection, the Global Accelerator instance is suspended.

  • If you do not complete the overdue payment 15 days after the Global Accelerator instance is suspended, it is automatically released.

You are notified by text message and email one day before the instance is released. The configurations and related data are deleted and cannot be restored after the GA instance is released.

If your Alibaba Cloud account has an overdue payment, you can top up your account.

  • If you top up your account within the validity period of service suspension protection, your service is not suspended.

  • If you top up your account within 15 days after the Global Accelerator instance is suspended and before the Global Accelerator instance is released, the system automatically pays the unpaid bills. After the payment is successful, the Global Accelerator instance immediately resumes services.

Subscription

Pay-by-bandwidth

If you purchase a subscription Global Accelerator instance whose bandwidth metering method is Pay-by-bandwidth, the Global Accelerator instance may be in one of the following states based on its expiration time:

  • Normal: After you create a Global Accelerator instance, your Global Accelerator instance remains in the Normal state until it expires.

In this state, you must ensure that the basic bandwidth plan that is bound to the instance is also in the Normal state. This way, you can use the Global Accelerator instance for application acceleration.

  • FinancialLocked (Locked state): Within seven days after a Global Accelerator instance expires, the Global Accelerator instance is locked and its service is paused.

In this state, you cannot perform operations on the Global Accelerator instance. However, the configurations of the instance are retained.

If you do not renew the instance or the renewal fails within seven days after the instance expires, the instance is released seven days after it expires. After the instance is released, the configurations and data of the instance are deleted and cannot be restored.

You can renew the instance before it expires or within seven days after it expires.

  • FinancialLocked: A basic bandwidth plan is locked and suspended if it is not renewed within seven days after it expires.

In this state, you cannot perform operations on the basic bandwidth plan, such as replacing the basic bandwidth plan. However, the configurations of the basic bandwidth plan are retained.

If you do not renew the basic bandwidth plan or the renewal fails within seven days after the plan expires, the plan is released seven days after it expires. After the basic bandwidth plan is released, the configurations and data of the basic bandwidth plan are deleted and cannot be restored.

You can renew the basic bandwidth plan before it expires or within seven days after it expires.
