When you use a pay-as-you-go Global Accelerator instance with the Pay-By-Data-Transfer billing method, data transfer fees are settled and billed through Cloud Data Transfer (CDT).

Prerequisites

If your business involves network acceleration between the Chinese mainland region and the Hong Kong, Macao, or Taiwan regions, or other countries and regions, ensure that the domain name of the accelerated application has completed ICP filing. Otherwise, you cannot use the Global Accelerator service.

Billable items

Data transfer fees for a Global Accelerator instance with the Pay-By-Data-Transfer billing method consist of the following components:

image
  • The internet data transfer from clients to the acceleration region.

The supported transmission network types for client access to an acceleration region are BGP (Multi-ISP) and BGP Pro.

    • BGP (Multi-ISP): BGP (Multi-ISP) provides high-quality BGP lines that cover multiple regions across the globe. It connects to the networks of multiple carriers and automatically selects the optimal route to ensure fast and stable access.

All acceleration regions support and use the BGP (Multi-ISP) type by default.

    • BGP Pro: BGP Pro is a premium network line that optimizes traffic from regions outside the Chinese mainland to the Chinese mainland. It improves the quality of international connections. Compared with standard BGP (Multi-ISP) lines, BGP Pro lines provide lower latency when they serve clients in the Chinese mainland (excluding data centers in the Chinese mainland) because they are directly connected to the Chinese mainland through premium carrier networks.

Currently, GA supports the BGP Pro type only in the China (Hong Kong) and Japan (Tokyo) regions.

  • The data transfer between the acceleration region and the endpoint group over the Global Accelerator network.

This data transfer includes the following types:

    • inter-region data transfer: data transfer between two regions that are both within the Chinese mainland, or both outside the Chinese mainland.

    • cross-border data transfer: data transfer between a region in the Chinese mainland and a region outside the Chinese mainland, such as Hong Kong (China), Macao (China), and Taiwan (China).

You must select a Transmission network type only when you require cross-border network acceleration (between regions in the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong (China), Macao (China), Taiwan (China), or other countries and regions): Premium Bandwidth For Cross-border Acceleration and China Unicom Cross-border Leased Line

      • Premium Bandwidth For Cross-border Acceleration: uses premium BGP lines to accelerate connections between the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong (China), Macao (China), Taiwan (China), or other countries and regions.

Compared with China Unicom Cross-border Leased Line, this option simplifies the approval process for cross-border services.

      • China Unicom Cross-border Leased Line: uses China Unicom leased lines to accelerate connections between the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong (China), Macao (China), Taiwan (China), or other countries and regions.

This option provides better acceleration performance than Premium Bandwidth for Cross-border Acceleration, but you must apply for a qualification for China Unicom cross-border services and complete cross-border compliance certification.

    Note
    • The configured acceleration region and endpoint group determine the geographic distribution of your service.

    • If the acceleration region and endpoint group are in the same region, data transfer over the Global Accelerator network is free of charge.

  • The internet data transfer or internal data transfer between the endpoint group and the backend service.

Whether you are charged for internet data transfer or internal data transfer depends on the connection method of the backend service. Internal data transfer is free of charge.

The following table lists the billable items for each deployment scenario.

Billing rules

The following table describes the billing rules for each data transfer type.

Transfer type

Billing rule

Pricing

Billing method

internet data transfer

Billed monthly for each region based on a tiered pricing model.

Usage is calculated for each calendar month and resets to zero at the beginning of the next month.

internet data transfer has multiple pricing tiers. The unit price varies by tier. For more information, see Internet data transfer.

pay-as-you-go (pay-by-dominant-data-transfer)

You are charged based on your actual data transfer usage. Fees are billed after the data is transferred, and the bills are generated by the CDT service.

inter-region data transfer

You are charged for data transfer in each region.

Connected areas: Regions that are both within the Chinese mainland, or both outside the Chinese mainland.

Global Accelerator inter-region data transfer supports the Gold service level. For more information, see Inter-region data transfer.

cross-border data transfer

You are charged for data transfer in each region.

Connected areas: between a region in the Chinese mainland and regions outside it, such as Hong Kong (China), Macao (China), and Taiwan (China).

Global Accelerator cross-border data transfer supports the Gold service level.

The fees for cross-border data transfer vary based on the selected transmission network type:

  • BGP (Multi-ISP) Pro: The price is CNY 6.4 per GB.

  • Cross-border Express Connect circuits: The price is CNY 5.6 per GB. This service is operated and sold by China Unicom.

    Important

If you need to use Cross-border Express Connect circuits for network acceleration between the Chinese mainland and other regions, such as Hong Kong (China), Macao (China), and Taiwan (China), you must obtain cross-border compliance certification. To do this, apply for China Unicom cross-border business qualifications by submitting your information on the China Unicom Cross-border Cloud Leased Line Online Application page.

Note

Billing examples

Note
  • Example 1: Clients in the Chinese mainland access a third-party application in the Chinese mainland

In this scenario, the acceleration region is China (Shanghai) and the endpoint group region is China (Beijing). The backend service is deployed outside of Alibaba Cloud and connected over the public internet. If 1000 GB of data is transferred through a Global Accelerator instance within one month, the fees include the internet data transfer fee in the China (Shanghai) region, the internet data transfer fee in the China (Beijing) region, and the inter-region data transfer fee.

    image
Unit price of internet data transfer in the Chinese mainland = CNY 0.80 per GB
Unit price of inter-region data transfer between regions in the Chinese mainland = CNY 0.48 per GB
    Then:
Internet data transfer fee in the China (Shanghai) region = Unit price of internet data transfer in the Chinese mainland × Data volume = CNY 0.80 per GB × 1,000 GB = CNY 800
Internet data transfer fee in the China (Beijing) region = Unit price of internet data transfer in the Chinese mainland × Data volume = CNY 0.80 per GB × 1,000 GB = CNY 800
Inter-region data transfer fee = Unit price of inter-region data transfer between regions in the Chinese mainland × Data volume = CNY 0.48 per GB × 1,000 GB = CNY 480
Total data transfer fee = Internet data transfer fee in the China (Shanghai) region + Internet data transfer fee in the China (Beijing) region + Inter-region data transfer fee = CNY 800 + CNY 800 + CNY 480 = CNY 2,080
  • Example 2: Clients outside the Chinese mainland access an Alibaba Cloud service outside the Chinese mainland

In this scenario, the acceleration region is Singapore and the endpoint group is in the US (Silicon Valley) region. The backend service is deployed on Alibaba Cloud and connected over a private network. If 1,000 GB of data is transferred through the Global Accelerator instance within one month, the fees include internet data transfer fees in the Singapore region and inter-region data transfer fees.

    image
Unit price of internet data transfer in Asia Pacific = CNY 0.7 per GB
Unit price of inter-region data transfer from Asia Pacific to North America = CNY 0.525 per GB
    Then:
Internet data transfer fee in the Singapore region = Unit price of internet data transfer in Asia Pacific × Data volume = CNY 0.7 per GB × 1,000 GB = CNY 700
Internet data transfer fee in the US (Silicon Valley) region = CNY 0
Inter-region data transfer fee = Unit price of inter-region data transfer from Asia Pacific to North America × Data volume = CNY 0.525 per GB × 1,000 GB = CNY 525
Total data transfer fee = Internet data transfer fee in the Singapore region + Internet data transfer fee in the US (Silicon Valley) region + Inter-region data transfer fee = CNY 700 + CNY 0 + CNY 525 = CNY 1,225
  • Example 3: Clients in the Chinese mainland access an Alibaba Cloud service outside the Chinese mainland

In this scenario, the acceleration region is China (Shanghai), the endpoint group is in the US (Silicon Valley) region, and the backend service is deployed on Alibaba Cloud and connected over a private network. If 1000 GB of data is transferred through a Global Accelerator instance within one month, the fees include the internet data transfer fee for the China (Shanghai) region and the cross-border data transfer fee for BGP (Multi-ISP) Pro.

    image
Unit price of internet data transfer in the Chinese mainland = CNY 0.80 per GB
Unit price of cross-border data transfer from the Chinese mainland to regions outside the Chinese mainland over BGP (Multi-ISP) Pro = CNY 6.4 per GB
    Then:
Internet data transfer fee in the China (Shanghai) region = Unit price of internet data transfer in the Chinese mainland × Data volume = CNY 0.80 per GB × 1,000 GB = CNY 800
Internet data transfer fee in the US (Silicon Valley) region = CNY 0
Cross-border data transfer fee (BGP (Multi-ISP) Pro) = Unit price of cross-border data transfer from the Chinese mainland to regions outside the Chinese mainland over BGP (Multi-ISP) Pro × Data volume = CNY 6.4 per GB × 1,000 GB = CNY 6,400
Total data transfer fee = Internet data transfer fee in the China (Shanghai) region + Internet data transfer fee in the US (Silicon Valley) region + Cross-border data transfer fee (BGP (Multi-ISP) Pro) = CNY 800 + CNY 0 + CNY 6,400 = CNY 7,200
