Transfer files

If you need to transfer files between your cloud computer and a local device, you can use built-in features such as disk mapping, the clipboard, the file transfer module, and the file migration tool, as well as third-party file transfer utilities. For Enterprise Edition cloud computers, file transfer approval and file transfer audit features are also available.

Important

This topic uses the macOS client V7.13 and the Enterprise Edition as examples. If your experience differs, you may be using a different client or an outdated version. Upgrade to the latest version. For the Personal Edition, see Personal Cloud Computer.

Considerations

  • Operating system support — All transfer methods support the following cloud computer operating systems: Windows Server, Linux Ubuntu, and Kylin.

  • Network connection — All transfer methods require a stable network connection. Network interruptions may cause transfer failures.

  • File integrity — When you transfer large files, verify the file size after the transfer is complete to ensure data integrity.

  • Clipboard file size — The clipboard is best suited for small files and text. For files larger than 100 MB, use local disk mapping or transfer files through Object Storage Service (OSS) to avoid transfer interruptions or failures.

  • Disk mapping client support — Disk mapping is supported only by the Windows client and the Android client. The Linux client does not provide this feature, so Linux cloud computers cannot use disk mapping. This feature is also unavailable for cloud computers accessed through a web browser (web client). To transfer files between a Linux cloud computer and your local device, use the file transfer module instead.

  • SSH and SCP not supported — You cannot use SSH or SCP to transfer files with a cloud computer. TCP port 22 on the cloud computer is not reachable over the Internet, so SSH and SCP connections time out. To transfer files, use the file transfer module (floating ball) instead. See Method 3: File transfer module.

Transfer files

Method 1: Disk mapping

Background

Disk mapping allows you to access a local disk from your cloud computer. The available modes are:

  • Read-only: You can view and copy data from the local disk to the cloud computer, but you cannot modify the data.

  • Disable: You cannot access data on the local disk from the cloud computer.

  • Read/Write: You can view, copy, and modify data on the local disk from the cloud computer.

Prerequisites

  • The cloud computer runs Windows Server, Linux Ubuntu, or Kylin.

  • You connect to the cloud computer from a Windows client or Android client.

  • The disk mapping policy associated with the cloud computer is set to Read/Write or Read-only.

    Configuration path for Enterprise Edition administrators

    1. Log on to the EDS enterprise console.

    2. In the left-side navigation pane, choose O&M Management > Policy.

    3. In the top navigation bar, select a region.

    4. On the Policy page, find the policy that is associated with the cloud computer and click Modify Policy in the Actions column.

      Note

      If the cloud computer is associated with the system policy system-all-enabled-policy, which cannot be modified, ask an administrator to create a custom policy in the Elastic Desktop Service (EDS) console for the Enterprise Edition and then associate the custom policy with the cloud computer. For more information, see Create a custom policy and Change the policy that is associated with cloud computers.

    5. On the Modify Policy page, choose Peripheral Control > Local Disk Mapping in the left-side navigation pane. To the right of Local Disk Mapping, select Read/Write or Read-only.

  • For desktop clients V7.13 or later and cloud computer images V2.12 or later, the copy permission for disk mapping in the policy associated with the cloud computer must be set to Allow Copy from Local Disk to Cloud Computer to copy files from the mapped local disk to the cloud computer.

    Configuration path for Enterprise Edition administrators

    1. Log on to the EDS enterprise console.

    2. In the left-side navigation pane, choose O&M Management > Policy.

    3. In the top navigation bar, select a region.

    4. On the Policy page, find the policy that is associated with the cloud computer and click Modify Policy in the Actions column.

      Note

      If the cloud computer is associated with the system policy system-all-enabled-policy, which cannot be modified, ask an administrator to create a custom policy in the Elastic Desktop Service (EDS) console for the Enterprise Edition and then associate the custom policy with the cloud computer. For more information, see Create a custom policy and Change the policy that is associated with cloud computers.

    5. On the Modify Policy page, choose Peripheral Control > Local Disk Mapping in the left-side navigation pane. To the right of Local Disk Mapping, select Read/Write or Read-only.

    6. To the right of Copy Permission, select Allow Copy from Local Disk to Cloud Computer.

Disk mapping is supported only by the Windows client and the Android client. The Linux client does not provide this feature, so Linux cloud computers cannot use disk mapping. If you use a Linux cloud computer, use Method 3: File transfer module to transfer files instead.

Procedure

In your cloud computer, open the mapped local disk and then cut, copy, and paste files.

Transfer via Android client

The Android client enables local disk mapping by default. You can manage it by performing the following steps.

  1. Open the Wuying client, log on to Enterprise Edition, and connect to the cloud computer.

  2. After you connect to the cloud computer, tap the floating ball and select the Peripherals tab.

  3. Under Storage Devices, you can enable or disable Auto Connect and view the status of internal storage devices.

  4. Open This PC and select Internal Storage Device in the left-side menu to copy, paste, cut, and edit files the same way as you do with local files.

If you do not want to maintain bidirectional synchronization between the cloud computer and your phone, disable Auto Connect under Storage Devices and tap Safely Eject.

Method 2: Clipboard

Prerequisites

  • Supported clients: All clients.

  • The clipboard control rule in the policy associated with the cloud computer must allow the desired transfer direction. For example, to transfer a file from your local device to the cloud computer using the clipboard, the clipboard control rule must be set to Allow Two-way Copy or Allow Copy from Local Device to Cloud Computer.

    Note

    For files larger than 100 MB, use local disk mapping or transfer files through Object Storage Service (OSS). The clipboard is best suited for small files and text.

    Configuration path for Enterprise Edition administrators

    1. Log on to the EDS enterprise console.

    2. In the left-side navigation pane, choose O&M Management > Policy.

    3. In the top navigation bar, select a region.

    4. On the Policy page, find the policy that is associated with the cloud computer and click Modify Policy in the Actions column.

      Note

      If the cloud computer is associated with the system policy system-all-enabled-policy, which cannot be modified, ask an administrator to create a custom policy in the Elastic Desktop Service (EDS) console for the Enterprise Edition and then associate the custom policy with the cloud computer. For more information, see Create a custom policy and Change the policy that is associated with cloud computers.

    5. On the Modify Policy page, choose Security > Clipboard Control in the left-side navigation pane.

    6. To the right of Management Granularity, select Global. Then, select an appropriate permission to the right of Copy Permission.

Procedure

Cut or copy a file or folder and then paste it in the destination. You can use keyboard shortcuts (Ctrl+X, Ctrl+C, or Ctrl+V) or context menu commands to cut, copy, and paste files.

Method 3: File transfer module

Use the file transfer module in DesktopAssistant to transfer large or numerous files. This allows you to transfer files in the background and check the transfer status and progress on the File Transfer panel at any time.

Note

Linux users can access the cloud computer through the web client and use the file transfer module.

Prerequisites

  • Supported clients: All clients.

  • The cloud computer image is V2.1.0 or later. For information about how to update the image of a cloud computer, see Manage and maintain cloud computers.

  • To use the full-speed transfer mode, one of the following conditions must be met:

    • An administrator sets the Full-speed Transfer Control Method to Managed by Administrator and enables full-speed transfer in the policy associated with the cloud computer. In this case, you cannot disable the full-speed transfer mode.

    • An administrator sets the Full-speed Transfer Control Method to Customized by End User in the policy associated with the cloud computer. In this case, you can enable or disable the full-speed transfer mode yourself.

    Configuration path for Enterprise Edition administrators

    1. Log on to the EDS enterprise console.

    2. In the left-side navigation pane, choose O&M Management > Policy.

    3. In the top navigation bar, select a region.

    4. On the Policy page, find the policy that is associated with the cloud computer and click Modify Policy in the Actions column.

      Note

      If the cloud computer is associated with the system policy system-all-enabled-policy, which cannot be modified, ask an administrator to create a custom policy in the Elastic Desktop Service (EDS) console for the Enterprise Edition and then associate the custom policy with the cloud computer. For more information, see Create a custom policy and Change the policy that is associated with cloud computers.

    5. On the Modify Policy page, choose Security > Data Security in the left-side navigation pane and configure one of the following settings:

      • Set the Full-speed Transfer Control Method to Managed by Administrator and enable full-speed transfer. In this case, end users cannot disable the full-speed transfer mode.

      • Set the Full-speed Transfer Control Method to Customized by End User. In this case, end users can enable or disable the full-speed transfer mode.

Procedure

  1. In the cloud computer, open DesktopAssistant and click File Transfer.

  2. In the upper-right corner of the File Transfer panel, click Add and select Upload to Cloud Computer or Download to Local Device. You can choose to upload or download a file or folder.

    Note

    By default, upload and download speeds are limited. To remove the limit, click Preferences and turn on the full-speed transfer switch. The full-speed transfer mode may affect the performance of your cloud computer. Use this feature with caution.

  3. In the file selection window, select the file or folder to upload or download and click Open.

    Successfully transferred files appear in the user's Downloads folder on the cloud computer or local device.

Next steps

  • View file transfer records: On the File Transfer panel, click the Upload to Cloud Computer or Download to Local Device tab to view detailed records of file uploads and downloads.

  • Find a transferred file: To the right of a file transfer record, click the icon to open the folder containing the transferred file.

  • Delete a file transfer record: To the right of a file transfer record, click the icon to delete the record. The transferred file is not deleted.

Method 4: File migration tool

Use the file migration tool in the file transfer module to migrate many files from a local device to a cloud computer in a single operation.

Prerequisites

  • You connect to the cloud computer from a Windows client or macOS client (V7.4 or later).

  • The cloud computer image is V2.1.0 or later. For information about how to update the image of a cloud computer, see Manage and maintain cloud computers.

  • An administrator has enabled the Data Migration Tool in the policy associated with the cloud computer. For more information, see DesktopAssistant-related rules.

    Configuration path for Enterprise Edition administrators

    1. Log on to the EDS enterprise console.

    2. In the left-side navigation pane, choose O&M Management > Policy.

    3. In the top navigation bar, select a region.

    4. On the Policy page, find the policy that is associated with the cloud computer and click Modify Policy in the Actions column.

      Note

      If the cloud computer is associated with the system policy system-all-enabled-policy, which cannot be modified, ask an administrator to create a custom policy in the Elastic Desktop Service (EDS) console for the Enterprise Edition and then associate the custom policy with the cloud computer. For more information, see Create a custom policy and Change the policy that is associated with cloud computers.

    5. On the Modify Policy page, click DesktopAssistant Management in the left-side navigation pane and turn on the Data Migration Tool switch.

Procedure

  1. In the cloud computer, open DesktopAssistant and click File Transfer.

  2. In the upper-right corner of the File Transfer panel, click File Migration.

  3. In the dialog box, select a migration mode:

    • Quick Migrate: Copies all data from the Documents folder on the user disk to the cloud computer.

    • Manually Select Files: Copies data from all folders that you select to the cloud computer.

  4. After you select a migration mode and complete the subsequent operations, click Start Migration.

Change the default save path

By default, files uploaded to a cloud computer are saved to the Downloads folder in the user directory. You can change this default save path.

Prerequisites

You connect to the cloud computer from a Windows client or macOS client (V7.13 or later).

Procedure

  1. In the cloud computer, open DesktopAssistant and click File Transfer.

  2. In the upper-right corner of the File Transfer panel, click Preferences.

  3. On the Preferences panel, click Change and select a new default save path.

File transfer approval

Enterprise Edition administrators can enable file transfer approval for specific users or user groups in the console. After this feature is enabled, when you transfer data using the client-cloud clipboard, file migration, or file transfer, you must obtain approval from a designated approver.

Prerequisites

  • You connect to the cloud computer from a Windows client or macOS client (V7.13 or later).

  • The cloud computer image is V2.11.3 or later. For information about how to update the image of a cloud computer, see Upgrade cloud computer components and images.

Rules

  • The file approval feature is disabled by default for both users and user groups.

  • Settings for user groups have priority over settings for individual users.

  • If a user belongs to multiple user groups with conflicting settings, the approval requirement applies.

Important

For security reasons, if the client version is earlier than V7.13 or the cloud computer image version is earlier than V2.11.3, enabling file approval for a user or user group automatically disables file transfer, data migration, and clipboard file transfers.

Enable file approval for administrators

  1. Log on to the EDS enterprise console.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, choose User Center > User Management.

  3. Enable file approval at the user or user group level:

    User level

    Click the User tab and perform one of the following operations as needed:

    • Single operation: Find the target user, click the ⋮ icon in the Actions column, select Enable File Approval, and then click Enable Now.

    • Batch operation: Select one or more users, choose More > File Approval at the bottom of the list, select Enable File Approval in the dialog box, and then click OK.

    User group level

    Click the User Group tab and perform one of the following operations as needed:

    • Single operation: Find the target user group, click the ⋮ icon in the Actions column, select Enable File Approval, and then click Enable Now.

    • Batch operation: Select one or more user groups, click File Approval at the bottom of the list, select Enable File Approval in the dialog box, and then click OK.

  4. In the Set Approver dialog box, enter the approver's username and email address and mobile number (optional), and then click OK.

Integrate the approval workflow

Approval messages are sent to EventBridge. Your organization must integrate a third-party approval workflow by using the information in the following documents.

End-user file transfer

If an administrator has enabled file approval for your account, the following message appears when you transfer a file.

Note

If the request is approved within 14 days, the file transfer resumes. Otherwise, the transfer task is canceled.

File transfer audit

Enterprise Edition administrators can review all data transfer records between cloud computers and local devices in the console.

Prerequisites

You connect to the cloud computer from a Windows client or macOS client (V7.12 or later).

View audit records

  1. Log on to the EDS enterprise console.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Security Center > Operation Log.

  3. In the top navigation bar, select a region.

  4. On the File Transfer Log tab, view the file transfer records of end users. You can view the details of transferred files, including the operation type and approval status, and can also preview and download the transferred files, and delete the transfer records.
