This video demonstrates how to purchase a Web Hosting product. The actual user interface may vary.
Purchase a web hosting instance
This topic uses the purchase of an Exclusive Web Hosting instance as an example. If you need to purchase a Shared Web Hosting instance, go to the Shared Web Hosting purchase page. The procedure is similar to the one described in this topic.
Before you purchase a Web Hosting product, ensure that you have an Alibaba Cloud account. If you do not have an Alibaba Cloud account, see Alibaba Cloud account registration process.
Step 1: Go to the Create Host page
- Log on to the Cloud Web Hosting management page.
- In the navigation pane on the left, click Cloud Web Hosting.
On the Host List page, click Create Host.
Configure the settings as described in the following steps. On the Web Hosting purchase configuration page, in the Basic Configurations section, select a data center (for example, China (Hangzhou) or China (Beijing)), a Product Name (for example, an Enhanced or a Standard edition, such as Exclusive Standard Edition), an operating system (Linux or Windows), an IP Address type (dedicated IP), and the Quantity (number of instances and subscription duration). The Current Configuration panel on the right summarizes your selected settings. After confirming the settings, click Buy Now.
Step 2: Select a data center
In the Basic Configurations section of the Web Hosting purchase page, select a region that is close to your customers, for example, China (Hangzhou). This can reduce network latency and improve access speed. The available regions are displayed on the purchase page. The following information describes the distribution of Web Hosting data centers and the principles for selecting a region:

Regions
Data centers in the Chinese mainland
Deploy services in the Chinese mainland.
China (Beijing), China (Hangzhou), China (Shanghai), China (Shenzhen), China (Qingdao), and China (Chengdu)
Data centers in other countries and regions
Deploy services for users in China (Hong Kong), the United States, or Singapore.
NoteIf you access Web Hosting instances in other countries and regions from the Chinese mainland, you may experience high latency and packet loss due to international network congestion.
China (Hong Kong), US, and Singapore
NoteThe Shared Web Hosting Economy Edition is available in the China (Beijing) region.
The Shared Web Hosting Economy Enhanced Edition is available in the China (Beijing), China (Hangzhou), China (Shanghai), China (Shenzhen), China (Qingdao), and China (Chengdu) regions.
Principles for selecting a region
We recommend that you select a region closest to you or your customers to improve website access speed.
Take data centers in the Chinese mainland as an example:
If you or your customers are mainly located in Northern China, we recommend that you select the China (Beijing) or China (Qingdao) region.
If you or your customers are mainly located in Eastern China, we recommend that you select the China (Hangzhou) or China (Shanghai) region.
If you or your customers are mainly located in Southern China, we recommend that you select the China (Shenzhen) region.
If you or your customers are mainly located in Southwestern China, we recommend that you select the China (Chengdu) region.
If you need to change the region of your host, see Change the data center of a host.
Step 3: Select a product edition
In the Basic Configurations section, select a Web Hosting product that meets your website's requirements for configuration, such as web space, development language, and database type. For example, you can select the Exclusive Standard Edition.
The following table describes the main differences between Shared Web Hosting and Exclusive Web Hosting.
Configuration | Shared Web Hosting | Exclusive Web Hosting |
Bandwidth | Shared | Dedicated (more stable network speed) |
IP address | Shared | Dedicated (better for SEO and marketing) |
Website traffic | Limited | Unlimited |
Server resources (CPU and memory) | Shared | Dedicated (faster performance) |
Web space | Large (2 GB to 15 GB) | Extra large (5 GB to 150 GB) |
Billing method | Yearly | Monthly or yearly |
For more information about Web Hosting product types and detailed configurations, see the Web Hosting Product Page.
Step 4: Select an operating system
Web Hosting provides Windows and Linux operating systems. In the Basic Configurations section, select an operating system based on your website's development language and database type. For example, you can select the Linux operating system.
Some Web Hosting instances do not support changing the operating system due to limitations such as hardware or data center location. Check these details before purchasing to select the right product. For example, Enhanced Edition Exclusive Web Hosting instances in regions outside the Chinese mainland do not support switching to the Windows operating system. For more information, see Web Hosting instances that do not support OS changes.
The following table shows the supported languages and databases for each operating system.
Operating system | Language | Database |
Windows |
|

Linux |

For more information about the operating systems, development languages, and databases supported by Web Hosting, see Database versions supported by Web Hosting.
Step 5: Select a subscription duration
The default subscription duration is one year. Available durations are displayed on the page. In the Quantity section of the Web Hosting purchase page, select a subscription duration that meets your needs, for example, 3 years.
Step 6: Complete the purchase
On the Web Hosting purchase page, after configuring the purchase information, click Buy Now.
On the Confirm Order page, verify your order details, select I have read, understood, and agree to the [Exclusive Web Hosting Standard Edition Online Service Terms], and then click Buy Now.
NoteThe name of the service terms varies depending on the Web Hosting product that you selected. This step uses the Exclusive Web Hosting Standard Edition as an example. The actual name on the page prevails.
On the payment page, select a payment method and payment type, and then click Pay Now.
After the payment is complete, your Web Hosting instance is created within 5 to 10 minutes.
If you close the payment page before you pay, the system saves the order for the host on the Unpaid Orders tab of the HiChina Product Orders page. You can go to that tab to complete the payment. For more information, see Where can I find my unpaid orders?.
Initialize the instance
To ensure the security of your Web Hosting instance, Alibaba Cloud does not set an initial password. After purchasing a Web Hosting instance, you must initialize it. This includes setting the Host Management Console login password, FTP login password, and database password.
- Log on to the Cloud Web Hosting management page.
- Find the Cloud Web Hosting instance you want to manage and click Manage in the Actions column.
On the Initialization page, in the Password Initialization Settings area, set the Host Management Console login password, FTP login password, and database password in sequence. Then, click Save, Next.
