Quick start: Register a domain name

This topic guides you through registering a domain name on Alibaba Cloud and preparing it for use.

Prerequisites

You need an Alibaba Cloud account that has completed real-name verification. For instructions, see Account registration and Real-name verification.

Procedure

  1. Check the domain name status.

    Log on to the domain name registration platform, enter your desired domain name, and then click Search Domain. For more information about the domain name status, see Query the registrable and tradable status of a domain name.

  2. Register the domain name.

    To the right of your desired domain name, click Add to Cart.

    Note

    If your desired domain name is already registered, you can acquire it through a domain name trade. For instructions, see Quick start for domain name trade.

    The search results display domain names with various suffixes, such as .com, .cn, and .top, along with their first-year registration prices.

  3. Complete the order information.

    1. In the Order information section, select the registration period.

    2. In the Select information template section, select an information template that has passed real-name verification.

      Note

      • To comply with the Measures for the Administration of Internet Domain Names and ICANN policies, you must use an information template that has passed real-name verification and contains a verified email address to register a domain name. The entity specified in the information template becomes the domain name holder.

      • If you register a domain name with the .gov.cn suffix, the domain name holder type must be Enterprise.

      • If you have an information template that has passed real-name verification, select the verified template.

      • If you do not have a verified information template, click Create information template, fill in the required information, and submit the template for real-name verification. Once the template is verified, select it. For instructions, see Domain name real-name verification procedure.

        Note

        The registry reviews the real-name verification for information templates. The review is typically completed within one business day, but may take 3 to 5 business days in some cases. Please wait for the review result. You can check the verification progress on the Information template page. The verification is successful when the Template status changes to Real-name verification successful.

    3. Optional: Enter a coupon code.

      For instructions, see Step 1: Obtain a coupon code.

      Note

      • Coupon codes apply only to specific domain name suffixes. You can use a coupon code only after it is successfully validated. The actual price is subject to the amount specified in your order.

      • Coupon codes are updated periodically. They are available for a limited time and in limited quantities, and can be used only for non-premium domain names on PCs.

      • Coupon codes cannot be used with other promotions.

    4. Select Enable auto-renewal.

      If you enable auto-renewal, the system automatically deducts the renewal fee for the next year 15 days before your domain name expires. We recommend enabling auto-renewal to prevent service disruptions when your domain expires.

    5. Select I have read, understood and accepted the domain name service terms, and then click Buy Now.

  4. Check the domain name status.

    Log on to the Domain Name console. In the left-side navigation pane, click Domain name list. When the status of your domain name changes from Pending review by registry to Normal, the real-name verification for the domain name is complete.

    Note

    The review of real-name verification materials is typically completed within one business day, but can take 3 to 5 business days in some cases. Please wait for the review result.
