Purchasing domain names
What is a fixed-price domain name? How do I purchase one?
Fixed Price (Direct): Fixed Price (Direct) is a transaction type on the Alibaba Cloud domain name trading platform where Alibaba Cloud users list domain names for sale. Alibaba Cloud facilitates the entire transaction and issues an invoice to the buyer.
Fixed Price (Premium Selection): Fixed Price (Premium Selection) is a service for purchasing recommended pre-owned domain names. Alibaba Cloud partners with third-party domain name trading platforms to consolidate their listings. You can purchase Fixed Price (Premium Selection) domain names that are recommended by the Alibaba Cloud system.
You can purchase fixed-price domain names on the Alibaba Cloud domain name trading home page. For more information, see the documents linked above.
How do I query pre-ordered domain names?
Log on to the page to view your pre-ordered domain names.
How do I check domain backordering results?
Log on to the page to view the results.
What is the process for the domain name brokerage service?
Negotiated Price Domain Names: On the negotiated price domain name platform, you can submit a request to purchase a domain name. Alibaba Cloud and its partners then negotiate the price with the seller to complete the transaction.
The general process for purchasing a negotiated price domain name is: Request > Communication > Negotiation > Transaction. For more information, see Negotiated price domain name transaction process.
Domain Buy Service: Similar to negotiated price domain names, you can submit a request in the Alibaba Cloud console to purchase a specific domain name. Alibaba Cloud and its partners then negotiate the price with the seller to complete the transaction.
The general process for the Domain Buy Service is: Request > Communication > Negotiation > Transaction. For more information, see Domain Buy Service.
Why is the domain name I purchased still in the "processing" state?

Solution |
Newly registered domain name |
The system is waiting to associate your domain name registration information with the domain name registry's identity verification system. |
According to the Internet Domain Name Regulations, registries and registrars cannot provide services for domain names or registrants that have not completed identity verification. Effective February 15, 2022, you must select a registrant profile that has passed identity verification when you register a domain name through Alibaba Cloud. In some cases, a historical registrant profile might not be associated with the identity verification system of the domain name registry for the top-level domain (TLD). This association requires some processing time. Please wait for the process to complete. |
You submitted a registration order for a Wanwang pre-ordering domain name. |
Wanwang pre-ordering is a service provided by Alibaba Cloud to register expired domain names that are pending deletion. When a domain name is in the pending deletion phase at the registry, you can pre-order it through the Wanwang pre-ordering platform. After you successfully pre-order the domain name, the order status is Processing. You can view the status in the Alibaba Cloud Domain Names console under . The domain name status is Pre-ordered. You must then wait for the registry to delete and release the domain name. After the registry deletes the domain name, Alibaba Cloud submits the registration command, and the domain name status changes to Successful or Failed. |
|
The domain name you purchased is a trademark-protected domain name. Trademark-protected domain names are reserved by the registry and cannot be registered. |
Alibaba Cloud reviews domain names with the "processing" status on the same day. If the domain name you registered is a trademark-protected domain name, you will receive an email notification that the registration failed. We recommend that you register a different domain name. |
|
A system upgrade may cause a brief "processing" status for orders during the upgrade. |
Please wait 30 minutes and check the domain name status again. |
|
Fixed Price (Direct) order |
Note
For some Fixed Price (Direct) orders, the status may remain Processing for more than two business days due to issues with the seller's Alipay account, order review, or other reasons. |
|
Fixed Price (Premium Selection) order |
The transfer of most Fixed Price (Premium Selection) domain names is completed within a few minutes. For some domain names, the process may take 5 to 7 days because it takes longer to contact the seller or the domain name is subject to transfer restrictions. In some cases, the order status may remain "processing" for more than 15 days.
Note
Some Fixed Price (Premium Selection) domain names may have a longer processing time due to the ICANN 60-day transfer restriction or other reasons. Please wait for the process to complete. |
|
Domain Buy Service order |
The Domain Buy Service is a comprehensive service where Alibaba Cloud and its partners handle price inquiries, negotiations, analysis, acquisition, and transfers based on a user's request for a specific domain name. Therefore, the processing time may be long.
Note
You can find the contact information of an expert on the page in the Alibaba Cloud Domain Names console. The expert will verify and confirm your domain backordering inquiry. |
|
Domain Backordering order |
The delivery time for domain names backordered from partners depends on the partner's processing time. Due to ICANN's domain name transfer policy and other reasons, it typically takes at least 75 days after winning the bid for the domain name to be transferred from the original registrar to Alibaba Cloud and delivered to the winning user. Some partners may have longer transfer times. Please wait for the process to complete. |
|
Wanwang pre-release order |
For Wanwang pre-release domain names, it takes at least 30 days from the end of the auction until the final delivery and transfer to the buyer's account. |

Why is a Fixed Price (Premium Selection) domain name that I successfully purchased still listed for sale?
Possible cause 1: After a Fixed Price (Premium Selection) domain name transaction is successful, it may still appear in search results on the trading page. The system needs time to update the listing status. The synchronization time depends on the partner. During this period, the domain name cannot be purchased by others.
Solution: Wait for the system to update. The listing will be automatically removed.
Possible cause 2: The domain name is sold by our partner, Sedo.
Solution: You can delete the sale information for a domain name in two ways.
Method 1: The original seller of the domain name manually deletes the sale listing they previously published.
Method 2: The current registrant (not the original seller) provides a screenshot of the registrar's management interface (including the domain name and expiration date) and sends it to contact@sedo.cn. Clearly state the domain name that needs to be removed in the email.
After a domain name trade is successful, is the registrant information automatically updated to the buyer's information?
Yes. During the purchase process, the buyer must select a domain name registrant profile that has completed identity verification. After the domain name is purchased, the ownership is automatically transferred to the buyer at the same time the domain name is transferred to the buyer's account.
If the domain name has a registry lock or registrar lock status, the ownership transfer cannot be completed automatically. We recommend that you check the domain name's status using WHOIS before purchasing.
For a few domain names, if the ownership transfer does not complete automatically after the transaction due to processing delays at the identity verification authority or the domain name registry, the buyer must manually transfer the domain name ownership in the Alibaba Cloud Domain Names console. For more information, see Modify registrant information (transfer ownership).
Why does a seller receive a refund request from Taobao after a Fixed Price (Wanwang) domain name transaction?
In a Fixed Price (Wanwang) transaction, multiple users may try to purchase the same domain name at the same time. Only the first user to successfully complete the payment can acquire the domain name. A refund is initiated for the other users. Because Fixed Price (Wanwang) transactions use the Alipay escrow system, if the seller is a registered Taobao merchant, the system sends a Taobao transaction notification to the seller after a refund is processed. The refund process is completed automatically by the system and requires no user action. The domain name has already been successfully traded. The seller can view the transaction details in the Alibaba Cloud Domain Names console by clicking , or check their income records in the Alipay mobile app.
Selling domain names
What prevents me from listing a domain name for trade?
The following conditions prevent you from listing a domain name for trade:

The domain name is not under the currently logged-on Alibaba Cloud account.
For ".cn", ".China", ".company", ".network", ".Guangdong", ".Foshan", ".restaurant", ".group", ".I love you", ".trademark", ".jobs", ".website", ".online", and ".Chinese website" domain names, you cannot list them for trade within 7 days (7 × 24 hours) of registration. For other domain names, you cannot list them for trade within 1 day of registration.
The domain name expires in less than 7 days or has already expired.
The feature to transfer the domain name between accounts is restricted.
The domain name is a special type, such as a Weizhan domain name, a ".gov.cn" domain name, a Weihai ".cn" domain name, a China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC) reserved domain name, or a ".xin" domain name for TrustPass members. This category also includes top-level domains (TLDs) such as ".hk" and ".trademark" that have special requirements from the registry for ownership transfer documents and entity restrictions.
The domain name has an ongoing operation (such as registrant information modification, ownership transfer, or transfer-out). The domain name has an unpaid order for renewal or registration.
The domain name is illegal, under legal arbitration, or in dispute, which restricts it from being listed for trade.
The domain name is already listed on a domain name trading platform.
".cn" and ".China" domain names with a ServerHold status cannot be listed for trade.
The domain name has an update-prohibited status, which prevents ownership transfer and trading.
Why can't some domain names be transferred (ownership), traded, or transferred (between accounts)?
Effective May 13, 2021, Alibaba Cloud has been phasing out services for TLDs that have not obtained a license from the domain name registration authority. For these TLDs, services for domain name ownership transfer, domain name trading, and transfer between accounts (IDs) are no longer provided.
The affected domain names include the following:
.org, .name, .win, .bid, .date, .party, .trade, .science, .vc, .loan, .help, .gift, .lol, .photo, .men, .mom, .click, .software, .pics, .pw, .lawyer, .engineer, .rocks, .game, .bar, .so, .me, .hk, .tel

Priced Push
What can cause a domain name Push to fail after publication?
The domain name has been deleted or transferred to another registrar (including domain names in the process of being transferred).
The domain name is transferred between accounts.
The domain name ownership is transferred.
The domain name is blacklisted, restricted from being transferred between accounts, or has other restrictions.
The listing period set by the user has expired.
The transfer authorization code for the domain name has been retrieved.
The listing violates the policies or regulations of the upstream authority.
The listing is delisted or restricted due to other special circumstances.
What are the reasons I cannot initiate a Priced Push for a domain name?
The domain name is not under the currently logged-on Alibaba Cloud account.
For ".cn", ".China", ".company", and ".network" domain names, you cannot list them for trade within 7 days (7 × 24 hours) of registration. For other domain names, you cannot list them for trade within 1 day of registration.
The domain name has expired.
The feature to transfer the domain name between accounts is restricted.
The domain name is a special type, such as a Weizhan domain name, a ".gov.cn" domain name, a Weihai ".cn" domain name, a CNNIC reserved domain name, or a ".xin" domain name for TrustPass members. This category also includes TLDs such as ".hk" and ".trademark" that have special requirements from the registry for ownership transfer documents and entity restrictions.
The domain name is in the process of an ownership transfer or transfer-out.
The domain name is illegal, under legal arbitration, or in dispute, which restricts it from being listed for trade.
A Priced Push or another type of trade, such as a fixed-price listing, has already been initiated.
Priced Push does not support transfers to Alibaba Cloud International Website (www.alibabacloud.com) users. Both the buyer and seller in a Priced Push transaction must use Alibaba Cloud China Website (www.aliyun.com) accounts.
What should I do if a Priced Push I received has expired?
After a buyer accepts a Priced Push for a domain name, they must complete the payment within 2 hours. Otherwise, the Priced Push transaction will be closed.
After a buyer accepts a Priced Push, they can also manually close the PUSH order before payment.
If the transaction is closed, the seller must initiate it again if they still want to trade.
What to do if one or more Push domain names fail to publish during a batch operation?
To protect the interests of both buyers and sellers, if one or more domain names fail to be listed when a seller initiates a batch Priced Push, the entire batch listing will fail. The seller must remove the ineligible domain names and initiate the batch push again.
To protect the interests of the buyer, if one domain name cannot be purchased when a buyer accepts and purchases a batch of Pushed domain names, the entire batch Push will fail. The amount paid by the buyer will be refunded to their Alipay account. To receive the domain names again, the buyer must contact the seller.
Funds and accounts
Can a RAM user perform domain name trades?
No, a RAM user cannot perform domain name trades. You must log on with your root account to perform trading operations.
What can cause a domain name trading account to be frozen?
The status of the bound Alipay account is abnormal
To complete domain name trades smoothly, you must bind an Alipay account that has completed identity verification. If this Alipay account is frozen, exceeds the collection limit, has expired identity verification information, or lacks a valid payment method, your domain name trading function may be temporarily restricted. First, contact Alipay customer service to resolve the issue. After your Alipay account returns to a normal state, submit a ticket to Alibaba Cloud to request the restoration of your domain name trading permissions.
For online negotiated trades, your trading function is frozen for 7 days after three consecutive defaults
As a buyer, if you reach a transaction agreement with a seller but fail to pay on time, it is recorded as one default. As a seller, if you reach a transaction agreement with a buyer but perform an operation on the domain name that prevents the transaction from completing, it is recorded as one default. After three consecutive defaults, the trading function will be frozen by the system for 7 days.
For domain name auctions, if the seller fails to deliver the domain name, their trading function is frozen for one month
After a domain name auction ends, if the seller fails to deliver the domain name by performing an ownership transfer, transfer-out (including retrieving the transfer code), or transfer between accounts, the auction transaction will fail. The seller's ability to list and purchase domain names will be frozen for one month.
Failure to disable the "Prohibit transfer-out from Alibaba Cloud for 60 days" setting as required by the platform
According to ICANN's domain name transfer policy, all sellers must agree to disable the transfer-out restriction to ensure smooth domain name transactions. Otherwise, the domain name trading function cannot be used. You can go to the I'm a Seller > Domain Push menu in the Alibaba Cloud console and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setting. The freeze will be automatically lifted. For more information, see Initiate a Domain Push.
Other violations that cause the domain name trading function to be frozen
If you maliciously publish content unrelated to the domain name in its description or engage in other behaviors that disrupt domain name trading, please correct the issue and then submit a ticket to request that the freeze be lifted. In cases of serious violations, the relevant account will be added to a blacklist, and its domain name trading function will be permanently frozen. The account's business operations on the entire Alibaba Cloud platform may even be restricted.
Under what circumstances is a domain backordering deposit unfrozen or deducted?
Domain backordering requires a security deposit. The deposit is automatically unfrozen regardless of whether the backorder is successful. If you default during the domain backordering process, the deposit is deducted.
Deposit unfreezing
A deposit is unfrozen in the following two situations:
The deposit is automatically unfrozen after a successful transaction.
If you are outbid in an auction, you can manually unfreeze the deposit. The system automatically unfreezes the deposit if a domain pre-order, auction, or transaction fails.
For more information about deposit unfreezing and deduction, see Domain Backordering.
Deposit deduction
Failure to pay within 72 hours after an auction ends constitutes a default. A default in a domain name transaction causes the deposit to be deducted.
For more information about deposit unfreezing and deduction, see Domain Backordering.
