  2. Open Command Prompt, navigate to the directory where the vpnhosts.exe tool is located, and run the following command to add the mapping to the Hosts file:

    .\vpnhosts.exe -set

If the set hosts successfully message is returned, you have successfully modified the Hosts file.

    Important

If you modify the Hosts file, you can still create a snapshot of the cloud computer, but you cannot use that snapshot to create a custom image.

To remove the mapping and restore the Hosts file, run the following command:

.\vpnhosts.exe -clean

If the clean hosts successfully message is returned, the hosts file is restored successfully.

Accessing high-security websites

When you access high-security websites from a Windows cloud computer, content may be blocked or pages may fail to load. For example, a page may not refresh during software registration, or a QR code may fail to appear. This can happen because IE Enhanced Security Configuration is disabled by default on Windows cloud computers. To fix this, enable the feature and add the website to your trusted sites. The following example uses a scenario where a Baidu Netdisk client fails to display a QR code.

  1. In the search box in the lower-left corner of the cloud computer desktop, enter Control Panel and open it.

  2. Set View by to Small icons and click Administrative Tools.

  3. Double-click Server Manager and click Local Server.

  4. In the Properties section, click Off next to IE Enhanced Security Configuration.

  5. In the Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration panel, set both Administrators and Users to On (Recommended) and click OK.

Reopen the Server Manager > Local Server page. The status of IE Enhanced Security Configuration is updated to On.

  6. When you access Baidu Netdisk again, a dialog box for Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration appears. Note the website address at the top of the dialog box, click Add, enter the address in the Add this website to the zone text box, click Add, and then click Close.

  7. Another enhanced security dialog box may appear. Repeat the previous step: note the address, click Add, enter the address in the Add this website to the zone text box, click Add, and then click Close.

Reopen Baidu Netdisk. The QR code on the sign-in page now refreshes automatically.

Does EDS Personal provide a dedicated public IP address?

No. EDS Personal cloud computers use a shared public IP address, not a dedicated one. Multiple cloud computers may share the same egress IP address. The shared IP address is also not static and may change at any time. There is no guarantee that the IP address remains the same across sessions. Because the IP is shared, external parties cannot use it to reach a specific cloud computer, and services deployed on the cloud computer are not directly accessible from the internet.

If you need a dedicated public IP address to expose services, use Elastic Compute Service (ECS) instead. For details, see What is ECS?.

How do I find the public IP address of my cloud computer?

Open a browser on your cloud computer and visit an IP lookup website such as https://myip.ipip.net to view the current egress public IP address.

Why does my egress IP location not match the region I selected?

EDS Personal cloud computers are not tied to a fixed region. The preferred location you select during setup (such as North China or East China) is a general geographic area. The system deploys your cloud computer to a nearby data center, but the actual data center location may differ from what the preferred location name implies. As a result, the city shown by an IP lookup website may not match the preferred location name. For example, selecting North China as the preferred location may result in an egress IP that resolves to Hangzhou. This is expected behavior and does not affect normal usage.

To look up your current egress IP address, see How do I find the public IP address of my cloud computer?.

Can I change the public IP address of my cloud computer?

No. EDS Personal does not allow you to manually change, specify, or pin a public IP address. The IP address is assigned automatically by the system and may change over time.

How do I increase the network speed of my cloud computer?

EDS Personal plans include 10 Mbps of internet bandwidth by default. You can upgrade the bandwidth. For more information, see Upgrading plan or network bandwidth.

Can I bind an EIP to my cloud computer for internet access?

No. EDS Personal cloud computers already have internet access built in and do not support binding an Elastic IP Address (EIP). You cannot use an EIP to change the public IP address or adjust the internet bandwidth.

Files and transfers

File upload size limits

Windows cloud computers do not have a file size limit for uploads. Linux cloud computers have a 4 GB limit per file.

Note

When you use the web client to connect to a cloud computer, uploads are limited to 2 GB. To transfer files larger than 2 GB, use the Windows client or macOS client.

How do I upload and download files on my cloud computer?

You can connect to your cloud computer through different clients, each of which supports slightly different file transfer methods. Choose the method that applies to your client. For more information, see Transfer files.

Copy-paste errors

Symptom

You cannot copy and paste a file from your local computer to a cloud computer.

Cause

The file path may be too long. The Windows operating system limits file paths to 260 characters. For more information about this limitation, see Maximum Path Length Limitation.

Solution

  • Shorten the file path or copy the files in smaller batches.

  • Use an alternative method to transfer the files, such as local disk mapping or the built-in file transfer feature.

Backup and restore

How do I restore cloud computer data from a restore point?

  1. Click Manage on the target cloud computer.

  2. On the Manage page, go to the Restore Points tab, find the target restore point, and click Restore on the right.

    Note
    • To restore your cloud computer disk data to the state when the restore point was created, shut down the cloud computer first.

    • Automatically generated restore points are listed here. Only the 7 most recent restore points are retained for each system disk and data disk. If you just activated your cloud computer, restore points may not yet be available because the scheduled creation time has not been reached.

  3. In the confirmation dialog box, click Confirm Restore.

How do I migrate data between cloud computers using images?

If you have multiple cloud computers and want to migrate all data from cloud computer A to cloud computer B, you can use the image feature. An image is a data backup that includes the operating system, initial application data, pre-installed software, and the data on the data disks you select.

Prerequisites

  • The cloud computers must belong to your personal account.

  • Cloud computer B (the destination) must not be shut down and must have a data disk capacity equal to or greater than that of cloud computer A.

    Note
    • If cloud computer B has a smaller data disk than cloud computer A, you can upgrade cloud computer B to a higher-tier plan to increase its disk capacity.

    • If cloud computer A and B are in different preferred locations, this operation may take longer, approximately 20 to 30 minutes.

Software and games

Running local applications

No, you cannot run locally installed applications on a cloud computer. While you can run portable (installation-free) applications from a local drive, this approach is not recommended because it may degrade performance and increase bandwidth usage. To access local files, a better method is to enable local disk mapping, which allows you to read from and write to local files from within the cloud computer. For more information, see Policy overview.

Game software not running correctly

If your cloud computer meets a game's system requirements but the game still fails to run, the DirectPlay component may be missing. You can install it by following these steps.

What is the difference between the system disk and the data disk? Can I run programs installed on the data disk?

On a Windows cloud computer, the C: drive is the system disk and the D: drive is the data disk.

The system disk is the default partition where the operating system is installed. It also stores system drivers, the Windows registry, default program directories (such as Program Files), and user folders (such as Desktop and Downloads). The data disk is a separate partition intended for storing your personal files and data.

You can install applications on the D: drive, just like on a regular PC. Any application that runs on the D: drive of a regular computer also runs on the D: drive of your cloud computer.

A game says no GPU is detected. What do I do?

Check whether your cloud computer is running in Esports mode. Only Esports mode provides a dedicated GPU. If you are not in Esports mode, stop the cloud computer and restart it with Esports mode selected.

An app installed from the Content Marketplace says the version is too old. What do I do?

Apps in the Content Marketplace may not always be updated to the latest version. If an app reports that its version is too old to function properly, download and install the latest version directly from the app's official website.

Can I deploy Dify, n8n, or other AI workflow platforms with Docker on my cloud computer?

Yes, cloud computers with a Linux image support Docker and can run containerized AI workflow platforms such as Dify and n8n. Windows cloud computers do not support Docker.

When purchasing a cloud computer, select a Linux image (such as Ubuntu 22.04) to install and use Docker. Alternatively, you can choose a community image with Docker pre-installed from the Content Marketplace to skip the manual setup.

Because the cloud computer uses a shared public IP address and does not support binding a dedicated public IP, web services deployed on the cloud computer are not directly accessible from the internet. To host publicly accessible services, use Elastic Compute Service (ECS) instead. For details, see What is ECS?.
