Individual identity verification
Before you can purchase products and services with an Alibaba Cloud individual account, you must verify your identity. This topic describes how to complete identity verification for an individual account.
If you plan to use this account for business purposes, complete enterprise identity verification. Using an account with individual identity verification for business purposes can cause issues related to personnel changes, account handovers, or financial disputes.
Procedure
You can complete the verification on a computer by visiting the Alibaba Cloud official website at www.aliyun.com or using the Alibaba Cloud app.
On a computer
On your computer, visit www.aliyun.com and choose to verify your identity using your personal Alipay account or by performing a face scan. The procedures for both methods are similar and require your personal Alipay information. Use Alipay verification because it eliminates the need to manually enter your name and ID number.
Alipay verification
Log on to the Account Verification page in the Alibaba Cloud Account Center. In the Individual Verification section, click Alipay Verification.
On the Alipay Verification panel, use the Alipay app on your mobile phone to scan the QR code. The QR code is valid for one hour.
On the Service Authorization page in the Alipay app, read the authorization agreement and click Agree to complete the verification.
Face scan verification
Log on to the Account Verification page. In the Individual Verification section, click Face Scan Verification.
On the Face Scan Verification panel, use the Alipay app on your mobile phone to scan the QR code. Enter your name and ID number, start the verification, and perform the face scan after your identity is verified.

View the identity verification result on the Individual Information page in the Alibaba Cloud Account Center.
Alibaba Cloud app
Using the Alibaba Cloud app, you can select personal Alipay authorization for verification without entering your ID number.
Open the Alibaba Cloud app. In the navigation bar at the bottom, click My to go to your personal center. Click your profile picture or account name to go to the Account Management page, and then click Identity Verification to go to the verification page. You can also click Verify To Get Benefits in your personal center to go directly to the identity verification page.
On the Identity Verification page, select Individual Verification. The Alibaba Cloud platform reads your authorized information from Alipay to perform identity verification. Click Confirm. The Alibaba Cloud app opens Alipay and redirects you to the Alipay Authorization page. Read and agree to the User Authorization Agreement.
After you grant authorization in the Alipay app, Alibaba Cloud obtains the relevant information from Alipay to complete the identity verification. The individual identity verification for your account is completed. You can go to the Account Management page in the Alibaba Cloud app and click Identity Verification to view the verification information.
What to do next
Add a payment method: Completing identity verification does not automatically add your Alipay account as a payment method. To purchase cloud products, you must add a payment method. For more information, see Top up your account.
Verify your student status: If you are a university student in the Chinese mainland, you can verify your student status on the website after completing individual identity verification to join the Alibaba Cloud for Universities program. For more information, see Student verification.
FAQ
Relationship between the Alipay account for identity verification and the one for payment
Q: Does the Alipay account used for verification have to be the same as the one used for payment?
A: No, it does not. The Alipay account used for verification is not related to future payments.
Identity verification uses Alipay only to confirm your identity. After verification is successful, the accounts are not linked. You can add any Alipay account—such as your own, a family member's, or your company's—in the Alibaba Cloud console for payments.
