Step 1: Purchase a mailbox

To purchase a mailbox, see Alibaba Mail purchase process.

Step 2: Set the password for the administrator account

To set the password for the administrator account, see Reset the password for the postmaster administrator account.

Step 3: Create organizational structures, accounts, and mail groups

1. From the administrator console: See How do I create an employee account?.

2. Using Active Directory (AD) synchronization: See Alibaba Mail AD Synchronization & Authentication. For more details, contact the Alibaba Mail helpdesk.

Important

Perform AD synchronization before you create any accounts in Alibaba Mail.

3. Using API synchronization: See 添加网页链接. To enable the API feature, contact the Alibaba Mail helpdesk.

4. Using DingTalk-Mail synchronization: See DingTalk-Mail binding.

Important

You must switch your DNS resolution to Alibaba Cloud before you bind and synchronize with DingTalk-Mail. If you plan to migrate email, you must first create the accounts in the Alibaba Mail administrator console. You can bind and synchronize with DingTalk-Mail only after the email migration is complete and the DNS resolution is switched.

Step 4: Migrate email

1. Using the IMAP protocol (Recommended): See Mailbox Migration. Note: If you do not need to migrate email, you can skip to Step 6 to switch the DNS resolution.

2. Configure an IMAP client to upload local emails: See Migrate local email data using Outlook + IMAP or Migrate local email data using Foxmail + IMAP.

3. Seamless Exchange migration: For more information, contact the Alibaba Mail helpdesk.

Step 5: Check emails after migration

Compare the number of emails migrated to Alibaba Mail with the number in the original mailbox to verify that the migration is complete.

Step 6: Switch DNS resolution

If the domain name for your Alibaba Mail service was previously used with another email provider, you must delete or pause the existing DNS records. Then, add the DNS records for Alibaba Mail. For more information about DNS settings, see:

How to configure DNS records for an Alibaba Cloud (HiChina) domain name to use Alibaba Mail

Step 7: Bind and synchronize with DingTalk-Mail

To bind with DingTalk-Mail and synchronize the address book, see DingTalk-Mail binding.
