AI content awareness

OSS uses multimodal AI models to automatically extract semantic descriptions and concise summaries for files stored in buckets and builds them into searchable indexes. This lets you directly search file content using natural language, enabling advanced search features like text-to-image and text-to-video search. This significantly improves the accuracy and efficiency of data retrieval and provides a solid foundation for building upper-layer applications such as retrieval-augmented generation (RAG).

CNAME domain name

A CNAME domain name is a system-generated, independent resolution endpoint used specifically for binding custom domain names. When you need to bind your own domain name, such as img.example.com, to a bucket, you point it to the system-assigned CNAME domain name instead of the generic default bucket domain name. The CNAME domain name is used only for DNS resolution of custom domain names and cannot be used for direct access requests.

Preventing file overwriting

If you want to prevent objects in an OSS bucket from being accidentally or maliciously modified after the initial upload, you can set a rule to prevent overwrites for the bucket. You can precisely control which objects cannot be overwritten based on file path, type, or operator identity.

Enable retention policy and versioning at the same time

Versioning ensures that when an object is overwritten or deleted, its old version is retained as a historical version instead of being physically deleted. A retention policy sets a protection period for all object versions in a bucket. During this period, no version can be deleted or modified.

Resource pools support priority-based throttling

When multiple business systems share the same OSS resource pool, the priority-based throttling feature allows administrators to set 3 to 10 priority levels for different business objects, such as buckets, bucket groups, or requesters. You can configure a separate minimum bandwidth commitment for each level. When bandwidth is limited, core services, such as online transactions, are prioritized. Low-priority services, such as log backups, use the remaining resources. This ensures that important services are not affected by traffic bursts from other services and enables differentiated Quality of Service (QoS) management within the resource pool.

Block Public Access

OSS supports public access through bucket policies and ACLs. Public access means that OSS resources can be accessed without specific permissions or identity verification. Public access can easily lead to data breaches and the risk of generating a large amount of outbound traffic from malicious access. To avoid the risks associated with public access, OSS supports one-click enabling of Block Public Access at the global OSS level, for a single bucket, a single access point, and a single object FC access point. After Block Public Access is enabled, existing public access permissions are ignored, and new public access permissions cannot be created. This closes public access channels to data and ensures data security.

Real-time access of Archive objects

Object Storage Service (OSS) supports enabling real-time access of Archive objects. You can directly access files of the Archive storage class without first restoring them. Compared to reading Archive files after restoration, real-time access has a shorter data retrieval time and higher cost. Real-time access is suitable for scenarios that require real-time reading of extremely infrequently accessed data.

Access points

You can create multiple access points for a bucket and configure different access control permissions and network control policies for each access point. Using different access points for different business scenarios, you can reduce the complexity of data access management for large-scale shared datasets.

Deep Cold Archive

Provides a highly durable object storage service at a lower cost than Cold Archive. It has a minimum billable size (64 KB) and a minimum storage duration (180 days). Data must be restored before access. The restoration time depends on the data size and the chosen restoration mode. Data retrieval fees and retrieval request fees are incurred. It is suitable for extremely cold data that needs to be stored for a very long time, such as long-term accumulation and retention of raw data in big data and artificial intelligence fields, long-term retention of media data, regulatory and compliance archiving, and tape replacement business scenarios. Deep Cold Archive only supports the locally redundant data redundancy storage method.

Server-side encryption

OSS supports server-side encryption for uploaded data. When you upload data, OSS encrypts the received user data and then persists the encrypted data. When you download data, OSS automatically decrypts the saved encrypted data and returns the original data to the user, and declares in the returned HTTP request header that the data has been encrypted on the server side.
